Avoid staying at The Dunes in Plettenberg Bay at all cost! I have never come across a more overhyped resort in my life! They offer very little in terms of value or service. The room we stayed in had no Aircon (it was broken), no shower, a busted TV, and no power most of the time! Why a South African resort does not invest in a generator is beyond me. Even most of the cheapest resorts have generators! The units are attached to each other and the walls are paper thin. We could hear every noise coming from our neighbors, like their TV, every word they said and every "action" they made. It was worse than staying at a cheap motel! The resort itself was not maintained at all, with paint peeling off the external walls of the buildings, and plumbing problems in their communal bathrooms (a toilet was literally overflowing in the restaurant's men's bathroom). After dinner, we were asked to pay the bill the following morning at reception, since the power (a common occurrence) went out during dinner and they could not print bills or take payments without power. The final bill was riddled with mistakes, and had I left it to the resorts to just deduct money from my credit card they would have overcharged me by R400 (the bill was for 2 people)!! The area offers much better alternatives, and I would recommend you stay elsewhere. Dunes Resorts is clearly in trouble and their guests are being taking...

Zero rating is what i will give this place I feel so disappointed and mislead.

  1. hotel is unit rooms not what you expect.
  2. only villas on beach. The rest units and hotel behind a sand dune/ mountain . You cannot see the beach. You need to take a long walk before getting to the beach.
  3. if you arrive at night like I did you cannot see the room numbers on the units very easily. In fact you can hardly see it. It is extremely difficult as it is not parking bay.
  4. Sercurity give me attitude as I cannot find my room. At that time of the night all you want is to get into your room. As he says I should have told him I am a new check in. So I say I was not instructed to that but was told to show the disc and proceed to my room.
  5. No salt on the table or tamatoe source given at breakfast. You got to keep asking for things and wait. Coffee is horrible
  6. Room not done/cleaned after 1 night stay. After a long day at work and to arrive to room not done. No clean towels. This Was it for me but I had more in stored.
  7. Got moved to another room only to find spider and cockroache Got out to call manager they don't even have doom - she brings a box. I have Arachnophobia so I was totally scared.
  8. No...

We stayed in an apartment in The Dunes booked via Booking.com. Our Host was Austin. The apartment was not very clean. The floors were extremely sandy and the upstairs floors were also sticky. The shower drain was completely blocked, we could not use the shower. We had to make use of the bath.||I asked the host to send the cleaning company, but I was told that they will only come to clean again on the day of check out.||I had to sweep all the floors with a broken handheld broom and dustpan on my hands and knees, as that is all that was available.||We came back from town one day, and maintenance was being done on the apartments roof.||The host sent me a voucher for one night's stay, however I couldn't book the extra night as he had new guests coming in. ||A week later I hadn't heard anything from the host with regards to the refundable breakage deposit, so I had to enquire, and only then did I get the deposit back.||If I had to make use of the one night voucher, I would have to book with the host again, which I wouldn't...

Lovely spot .Room was modern and neat .The best was the inverter which meant we did not suffer from load shedding. No reception and no cleaning but we were kept well stocked with loo paper.Crockery and cutlery was the bare minimum, no salad bowl or chopping board. We had a little garden enclosed with a hedge but no view .Our unit was on the exit road and had traffic noise .Very happy with full Dstv .Security good No heater .Units very close together .Good value .Lovely big shower

Very disappointed in this Holiday Club accommodation. The unit isn't very clean. No space to hang your towels or stuff in the bathroom. After a midweek, no towels or bedding was swopped out. Kitchen utensils dirty (We booked 2 weeks) Outside benches is full of bird droppings. Little Braai broken and not clean (listed price on inventory R9500!?) Aircon not working or no remote? We are used to much more than this at other Holiday Club Resorts.

Rooms clean and neat but please do not use their restaurant. Very expensive and sub standard. The advertised buffet breakfast consists of 2 eggs a very small pork sausage, a small mutton sausage and a burnt peace of toast. Really. a ripp off The supper was eve worse. Please pick up your service. As it sucks. Had chicken schnitzel tonight...the food even worse than last night , was raw....please stay away..
