Iketla Lodge — Hotel in Greater Tubatse Local Municipality

Wonderful lodge near Ohrigstad in Mpumalanga with every detail taken care of from arrival to the very end of our stay. Situated on a private nature reserve, the lodge offers excellent birding and nature walks. It's near the Blyde River Canyon, which was our "en Route" to the Kruger National Park, and is ideal to explore the spectacular Panorama Route and the Kruger Lowveld region when staying at Iketla Lodge. The private patios provide magnificent views of the valley below, mountains, cliffs, and indigenous forests. We had “Romance Chalet” that offers just that little more for a special occasion. or not. It is more spacious than the other chalets, and “Romance Chalet” offers as well a bath with an exquisite view into the bush and a larger open-air shower. Very secluded and idyllic! ||Fantastic staff and great service. The food was delicious, the setting was so relaxing and beautiful. I will never forget the chef cook coming every evening to present us with the menu. She was very shy, but went out of her comfort zone and made our stay even more colorful. They offered us luxury in a stark wilderness. No comfort was overlooked. From the initial welcome to the daily smiles and greetings to the culinary offerings to the attentive assistance. Would highly recommend it to anyone wanting an authentic African experience. Would recommend at least two nights to take full advantage of what...

We have just returned from 3 night stay at Iketla Lodge, our hosts Pieter & Claudie were fantastic nothing was too much bother, helpful in giving info & maps for the places we wanted to visit, made you feel at home. Breakfast was good, selection of cold food, followed by hot as well. Evening meal was presented by the chef, who advised that days evening meal, 3 courses, South African fayre, excellent, a good wine list & beers. The Chalets, spacious clean, indoor & outdoor showers, tge scenery outstanding, some walking trails from half an hour to 4 hours, small pool which you can relax around. We visited Panorama 3 rondawels, god's window, blyde river canyon, Burkes luck pothole, we also visited a fantastic eating place about 2km from Burkes Luck Potholes, Graskop.The Chubby Pig, recommend by Pieter & Claudie, absolutely charming, rustic, seating over looking the river, food brilliant, also a small clothes shop as well, well worth a visit. You can go as far as Hazeyview. Trips on the Cannon, which we didn't do this time. Would most definitely recommend Iketla Lodge. Thank you, Pieter & Claudie, for a most enjoyable...

Leider der absolute Reinfall... trotz schöner Lage nicht zu empfehlen!

Die Lage ist das Positive an der Lodge, der Rest leider absolut enttäuschend und super ärgerlich.

Nach rund 10 Tagen im Krüger National und Timbavati Game Reserve haben wir uns die Lodge als Abschluss ausgewählt, bzw. unser Reisebüro hat uns diese vorgeschlagen, damit wir noch etwas wandern können.

Die Ankunft bei der Lodge war schon nicht der Beste, das Tor lässt sich nicht von der Lodge öffnen somit mussten wir 15 Minuten warten, bis ein Mitarbeiter unten angekommen war und uns rein gelassen hat.

Die Anlage ist in gewissen Bereichen schon in die Jahre gekommen (rostige Liegestühle etc.), aber sonst machte sie einen gepflegten Eindruck. Nachdem uns das Zimmer gezeigt wurde (Übereinstimmung mit den Bildern auf der Homepage) fiel uns ein etwas angenehmer Geruch auf, welcher unter Verwendung des Ventilators erträglich war. Nachdem aber von 15 Uhr bis 17 Uhr kein Strom zur Verfügung steht war der Gestank danach sehr reizend und penetrant. Das Personal hat nur gemeint, dass dies von der Behandlung des Holzes sei, gemacht werden könne nichts. (Wir waren während der gesamten Reisezeit ausschliesslich in Lodges und haben nie einen solchen Gestank erlebt). Nun ja, dann kam die nächste Überraschung: Die Dusche hatte gerade mal 5 Minuten warmes Wasser, danach war es ausschliesslich kalt.. Somit freuten wir uns, nach stinkendem Zimmer und kalter Dusche auf das Abendessen. Leider fühlten wir uns da wie im Altenheim: Niederländischer Schlager lief im Radio und das Essen war verkocht und nicht gewürzt.

Leider waren auch die Wanderwege nicht benutzbar, wie auf der Homepage beschrieben. Diese können anscheinend wegen des starken Regens nicht betreten werden..

Daher haben wir uns entschieden früher abzureisen, da uns nicht mehr an diesem Ort gehalten hat. Die grösste Überraschung kam dann in der nächsten Unterkunft, als wir unseren Koffer geöffnet haben und feststellen mussten, dass der komplette Kofferinhalt den Gestank der Holzbehandlung übernommen hat.... gewisse Kleider, wie auch Haarbürsten etc. stinken auch...
