We didn't actually make it there so I cant review the cottage itself. We had a booking with Featherbrook Cottage in March 2020 just as the whole covid thing was starting as we were going to swim the Ebenezer Mile which was cancelled so I requested that we postpone the booking to another time since there was no reason for us to go anymore. I got email confirmation from the Establishment that that would be acceptable without any indication of when the deposit would expire. ||With everything that happened with covid etc the first opportunity I had to look at rebooking was in Jan 2022 for Easter weekend. I contacted the Establishment, asking whether I could use the deposit I had paid to book, and they said I need to book via Travelground so I went and filled in an enquiry on Travel Ground and also asked the woman again if I would be able to use the deposit, I had already paid in 2020 to which she responded that I should call her. I then called her and her whole demeanour from the beginning of the conversation was unfriendly and unaccommodating. For example, when I asked her at the beginning of the conversation “How are you?” she responded with “well, that depends on who I’m talking to”. She continued in a very defensive/aggressive manner to tell me that it’s already been two years and Industry standard is 12 months so the deposit I paid can no longer be valid and more along those lines without ever really giving me a chance to speak. Regrettably, at this point I used a swearword in the context of what I was saying, and this was highly offensive to her, so she shouted at me and hung up. When I called her again to try and sort it out, she shouted at me again that she doesn’t want me there and I must just go away, and she hung up again.||So, then I sent her a message apologising for swearing but telling her I felt that her tone was aggressive and unaccommodating from the beginning. I then got a voice note from her saying she can’t help me with the deposit because she does not have any record of my booking or paying a deposit. I then emailed her all the correspondence confirming the booking and confirming I could use the deposit at a later date. She then told me I must deal with Lekkerslaap directly.||||I emailed Lekkerslaap with all the details. In the meantime, I received confirmation from the Travelground enquiry I had said confirming they have accommodation available for the weekend I enquired about at R900 per night. But when Lekkerslaap came back to me later that day the feedback from the Establishment was that they do have my deposit on credit for me, but they can’t refund me, and they don’t have accommodation available for that weekend and I can only use it until 18 April.||So, I sent an email back with the establishment in copy saying that the last time I spoke to the Lady she said she didn’t want me at her establishment and also that I had received confirmation from Travelground that the Cottage was available, so I am very confused. ||I then got an email saying that the Accommodation is in fact available but now suddenly the rates were R1200 per night so within 24 hours it went up with R300 a night. She did say that the original quote was a mistake and those are the rates for Easter weekend so I will give her the benefit of doubt. In the end I chose not to take up the offer due to all the confusion, unpleasantness, and sudden increase in price. ||In conclusion, I feel that if she had just been friendly from the beginning or even if she had just referred me to Lekkerslaap from the beginning then this whole nasty business could have been avoided. No mails asking for full payment, telling us we need to pay, no phonecall, no whatsapp. In her mind this is something you can send on the day, which we received on route from Johannesburg. She then has the audacity to scream at us saying she has decided to renovate the cottage (over a long weekend which we have booked and paid a deposit for) Clearly not honest people who can be trusted.
