I recently had the pleasure of staying at Highgrove Lodge in Tzaneen, and I must say it was an absolutely wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and attentive service, making me feel right at home. One of the first things that caught my attention was the spacious room I was assigned. The accommodations were beyond my expectations, providing ample space to relax and unwind. The interior design of the room was tastefully done, creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Everything was neat and tidy, reflecting the high standards of cleanliness maintained throughout the lodge. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the caring and friendly staff. From the front desk to the housekeeping team, everyone went out of their way to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. They were always ready to assist with any request or query, which made me feel truly valued as a guest. Equally impressive were the owners, who were actively involved in the running of the lodge. Their personal touch was evident in every aspect of the stay, and it added a sense of warmth and authenticity to the experience. I have travelled to may places and have had some really disappointing stays, but this was one of my most disappointing of all time.

the staff were ok the room was tasteless and unprofessional the wifi never worked, even after reporting it and the reception assured me they will get it up and running there was no fresh bottled water in the room the pre-ground coffee for the coffee plunger was stale and very old the bathroom was huge, but there were no soap holders in the shower there was no mirror above the basin. The mirror was on the other side of the bathroom, so I had to walk to and fro to shave during load shedding, they could not provide rooms with generator power. There was one rechargeable LED light which didn’t work, and one candle which had probably been left in the sun and looked like a banana. There were no matches to light the one single candle Once the power came back, I could not turn the TV on as the TV remote didn’t work. I had to get up and physically turn the tv on / off. the fridge was not plugged in and along with no fresh bottled water, there was no ice either we sat down for dinner at 7pm. We ordered starters straight away. The starters took 50min and the main course even longer… 3 hrs at the dinner table mostly waiting for orders is just signs of a place overwhelmed and untrained.

What we liked: the room and bathroom are spacious with fancy mirror in bathroom; beautiful surroundings and set-up; good food and coffee. Recommendations; rubber mat and shelf in the shower; hand towels and rail at the basin; additional rail for bath towel; flat sheet for the bed; a hair dryer and electric socket close to a mirror; General comment: we were told breakfast is served from 07:00 until 11:00 but when we arrived at 09:15, we got the imression we were too late; we walked out of the restaurant on Saturday evening because the waitress didn't come back to take our order or offered us the drinks menu; there was a foul smell suspectedly from the little dam; we only had one (1) teabag at the coffee station; please switch on the fridge when guests are expected; the fact that the restaurant is not open on a Sunday can be a problem for guests not staying in a self...
