Having tracked the history and story behind Kings Walden over the years, when we decided to spend some time in Magoebaskloof, KW was the natural choice, and a GOOD decision!|Hannes and Marike, returning to SA from the Netherlands, courageously and lovingly took on the challenge of reimagining and restoring the guesthouse and classic gardens about a year ago. |The house and accommodation have been tastefully and comfortably furnished, with a muted, classy style. Just the right amount of luxury. No clutter.|The pool area and gardens are peqceful and beautiful. The extended gardens will be a work in progress over the coming years, I suspect it will take time as gardening does!|The backdrop for KW is a magnificent, dynamic vista overlooking the valley, changing with the mist and shifting light.|Our dining experience was good. We, together with our children, enjoyed our breakfasts and dinners. Butter chicken curry was a highlight, morning fruit and granola pots nicely prepared.|We are quite fussy and we can’t think of any way to improve our meals. For us, the chef seems to be striking the right balance: simple fare done very well. Not getting too fancy such that the basics go wrong. Eg steak requested medium rare, is perfectly medium rare. |Then the wonderful staff! Mathimba, Walter and Portia looked after us so well. Always around and available and NOTHING too much to ask.|When we even just THOUGHT about swimming then they would appear with towels!! |Just a lovely team. |Thank you to each individual involved especially those we didnt meet who are making things happen behind the scenes.|We look forward to KW rising to wonderful success in the hospitality industry - if you flourish,...
Read moreSerene and tranquil place with splendid views, book in advance for food as it's not readily prepared (which I find great meaning you get fresh food)..ambiance okay for romantics. A 3/5 for guest attentiveness and human engagement (look the place is slightly located on the outskirts, often I observe if its worth a return trip based on welcoming approach from staff considering the long drive there and emotionally placing your mind for an 'intimate trip' through all touchpoints and amenities and in this case I 'kinda' would go with family for brunch or lunch or a partner for an overnight stay ).Go, and walk through the garden and enjoy the air quality. For those travelling from south of polokwane heading for the kruger via phalaborwa gate I'd recommend you drive through Magoebskoef forest, approach tzaneen Agatha (a bit early cause the road has no streets lights) and book yourself...
Read moreKings Walden is a legendary place in the Limpopo Lowveld and, despite knowing the area well, I visited it for the first time this Summer. Walking around the main building from the parking reveals the breathtaking view quite suddenly and we all paused to take it in. The view quite literally stopped us in our tracks. We were there to see the gardens. The trees and mass plantings of shade-loving forest floor plants are beautiful at any time of year. We were there to catch the pink and purple splendour of the Tibouchina trees in flower, and there were still a few hydrangea heads in their various shades of blue. We also had tea with a shared slice of delicious cheese cake in the most relaxing space on the patio overlooking the lightning tree and the blue mountains in the distance. Do not miss a visit to this...
