The hotel is situated in a beautiful location and has beautiful gardens overlooking the mountains. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and clean although they might be due for a bit of a spruce up. Management of the hotel need to work on a lot though - security (we didn't see a security guard during our stay and were never stopped at the gate to verify that we were staying there), service at the bar very slow.... but the biggest problem they seem to have is their restaurant... half the items on the menu was not available and we eventually waited over an hour for an extremely overcooked, tough steak and a burger made with stale bread that both had no flavour. We brought this to their attention the next morning and were assured that the curry buffet that evening will be great. We decided to give them another chance and were disappointed yet again by finding a dead fly in the food. We notified them of this and the guy said he would get back to us shortly, we waited about 15 min and no one came back to us. I did a review on this on booking.com afterwards and in their response they blame us for the fly, saying that we chose a table next to an open window with the light on outside, however, the waiter told us to sit at that table and the window was not open as it was cold, the curtain was even drawn. The fly was also clearly long dead. One of the waiters even said that the air conditioning might have blown the fly into the buffet pots. They also mention in their feedback to my review that they had over 50 pax and no one else had an issue but the lighting in there is so poor that other guests might have eaten their flies without knowing or might have been fortunate enough to dish past it. The restaurant experience at this hotel was really disappointing and we expected better. If they can fix their restaurant this will be a really nice place to go. They seem to be very...

3 February 2009 There are 2 routes to Magoebaskloof – one via Lydenburg and Hoedspruit – the other via Bela Bela (Warmbaths) and Pietersburg. We took the Bela Bela option. For breakfast, we stopped at the Petroport Bridge and had a Steers breakfast. Close to Magoebaskloof, we were amazed at what looked like St Joseph lilies. They were everywhere – in the grass, on the banks next to the road … growing wild. Some of the local youngsters sell them in bunches next to the road. We arrive at the hotel after 10 – but check-in time was only at 12, so we had our first view of the valley. Absolutely breathtaking. And actually quite chilly! Luckily one of my coffee friends advised me to bring along jackets. I was actually so chilly, I had a nice cappuccino to warm me. A few motorcycle bikers joined us on the patio for a ‘brandy and coke’, had a few jokes amongst themselves and left again for the next pub. In the room, tea/coffee making facilities, ice cubes (for room service I presume) and 4 of the most delightful biscuits. I’m not 100% sure, but think they were Greek almond biscuits. Filled with nuts and loads of icing sugar all around – drenching your clothes and carpet in white… Have you experienced that a lot of hotels/guest houses are furnished with light curtains – breezy and airy, but not dark enough for an afternoon nap? So I bought us both eye masks (used in planes mostly). Having regular nightmares, waking up and seeing things in the room (usually a towel over the door), I thought an eye mask might be my solution. We slept...

The Hotel is in a fantastic location. Its absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately I think management needs to take a serious hands on approach. I understand that Covid has hurt a lot of businesses - but it is not excusable for what we've experienced this weekend. When first getting to our Room after long travel - first thing you want to do is take a shower right? Unfortunately our shower was missing a cold water tap fixture. (Which the maintenance man was aware about - but we were still booked into this suite.) However - we did get moved to another suite which was great. So thank you. The TOWELS & LINEN are absolutely disgusting. They were clean BUT had so many stains on them & were in really, really bad shape. The room has no fridge - so you cant keep any drinks cold. Bed was in poor shape. For 1.5k a night. I honestly expect more. The restaurant. We were really looking forward to dining on premises as driving around in the area at night is not ideal. More than half of the menu items are not available and the items that are available are definitely not worth the price that is charged. Everything is very timeously done. Even just a drink order takes 10-15min although it's not busy at all. A neighbouring table asked for olive oil which was not available either? I have heard so many complaints this weekend from other patrons.

It's very sad to see the state of this hotel. It needs serious hands on attention. For the price - it's a...

This has been a stay of mixed emotions. Lets look at the positive first: 1. Friendly and professional staff. Really nice people. 2. Beautiful setting with breathtaking views. 3. Best Burger Ive had in ages. Lets look at the negative: 1. Overpriced accomodation. 2. The entire hotel is aged, unmaintained and dillapidated. Old furniture, old paintings and artwork which carry no theme. As if paintings are just there to fill the walls. No proper flowing theme. Dark, poor lighting. 3. Rooms - overall all the carpets are old (30+ years), bathrooms are outdated and crummy. Yellow Brownish Water coming out the taps. Really disgusting. No fridge. Cheap plastic chairs outside. 4. The roofs need painting. 5. Overpriced food and a menu that doesnt ring with its consumer 6. Overpriced Alcohol 7. Damp issues. 8. Everything is just generally run down and it is evident in the low occupation while we were here. 9. Bathwater is boiling and a threat to someones safety. It feels like this Hotel is stuck in the 1980's and left to someone who has zero vision of gaining the most potential out of something that has SO much potential. Very ignorant to fulfilling needs of visitors and We are very disappointed....

Staff is exceptional, but it is obvious that management is failing dismally. Staff were trying their outmost to keep guests calm after all of us had to wait for over 3 hours for rooms to be ready. At breakfast, they ran out of basics...eggs, bread, no bacon, glasses. Juice was terrible. Management, locked up in office, not addressing frustrated guests. Toilets and bathtubs were dirty and not well cleaned. Otherwise, facilities are beautiful and the beds are comfortable. Better management and planning is required and extremely urgent. Also, I read the owner's responses to other reviews. What a bad defensive attitude. Yes, you are not Sandton, but you should read your guest reviews with appreciation. You sound like a little spoilt brat. 85year beautiful hotel will be ruined further by your terrible attitude and responses. You must appreciate your employees. They do their best and make it easier. Take little notes and work on planning, menu, clean toilets... the basics Big thanks to Itu at the bar, two ladies at reception, Makhanani at dining. Just for their customer service during a frustrating stay.
