Len and Juanie were our very gracious hosts for our 2 evening stay. We were travelling in a sedan and the previous day's rains had seriously damaged the roads, making one completely impassable. After consultation with Len, we agreed to attempt the drive. He drove toward us in a 4x4 to make sure we could make it through the mud and flooded rivers - which fortunately we did. We were treated royally. We enjoyed freshly baked bread, lamb chops from the farm, and the most incredible evening of star-gazing (the weather messed up up our plans to get to Sutherland but that, but that wasn't a problem at all), and rounded off the evening with a warm beverage that warmed the cockles of our hearts. The whole atmosphere is just lovely, and if you're looking for a breakaway from the city-life, I heartily advise you to book a couple of days...
Read moreMy wife and I did a 5 day cycle tour starting and ending in Sutherland. We slept at Oupoort on our 4th night.
The highlight of our day? Meeting Oom Lenn and Tannie Juanie. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome, big smiles and the fact that they’re going to go out of their way to make your stay both memorable and breathtaking.
We opted for the “wild camping”, pitching our tent in the middle of the bush, with chirping cicadas and two donkeys to keep us company.

Read moreAfter a long hot motorcycle ride across Tankwa karoo it was so nice to reach the peaceful and comfortable Oupoort Guest Farm. The most amazing hosts Juanie and her husband Len who made our trip a memorable one with comfortable accommodation and their wonderful Karoo curry the first night, the Karoo mutton braai packs for the following two nights and homemade bread and ice cream were other treats. There is a farm dam to cool off in on hot days, much walking in the veld with all the spring flowers and vast karoo landscapes. One can mountain bike or explore the gravel roads to Sutherland, Fraserburg and beyond. I chose to sleep out under the vast canopy of stars that are bright right to the horizon. Thanks Juanie and Len. I highly recommend this...
