Myself and my fiancé mostly enjoyed our stay at Elands Valley Resort, and we definitely would like to return at some point in the future, the views are amazing, the grounds are well kept, and the cabins are neat and cozy. We stayed in cabin 11 and thought it was amazing! There’s plenty of trails to walk on. It’s a very relaxing and scenic resort. Unfortunately, the day prior to our arrival, the snow had knocked out electricity for the whole area, which is not the resorts fault at all, as it wasn’t just the resort but the whole area. However, I am giving a bit of a lower rating, as I felt communication from the front office/management could have been better. We feel that we could’ve been sent a whatsapp or email, to notify us of the electricity problem, friends of ours were staying elsewhere in the Drakensburg, and were notified by their accommodation of the power issue and were even offered a rescheduling of their dates. Because of the power being out, we couldn’t shower, as the geyser is not gas, so with it being so cold we couldn’t warm up in a warm shower. Just a few more things to note on the communication topic, the generator for the wifi and 1 light in each cabin, is turned off in the night and not turned on until 8AM in the morning, we weren’t informed of that. When the generator was turned on, cabins 11-14 didn’t have wifi, I reported this and was only assisted after 2 hours, even after I said that there was an important phone call I was expecting from family abroad, the solution took 2 minutes, by just rebooting the wifi repeater. Because of the power issue, we had to charge our phones in the car, which drained the cars battery, I’m lucky the neighbours were kind enough to assist in jump starting my vehicle. We noticed another cabin had brought their dog, where on booking.com it states no dogs are allowed, there’s also a notice inside the cabin to say no animals allowed, we followed the rules but would have loved to have our dog with us as it is like our child, if the rules have changed, it should be updated for guests like us who want to bring their dogs. Our neighbour reported their toilet wasn’t flushing in the morning and wasn’t assisted until he found a maintenance guy himself and asked him to assist close to the evening, the reception must not have informed the maintenance team of the issue. I also want to note that, I had gone to the front desk/reception several times and had dealt with the same gentleman each time, and he couldn’t remember my name or cabin number every time, even 1 hour apart. Now I know we weren’t the only guests at the resort, and I don’t expect special treatment, but I will say - guest service makes the world of difference! I wish I didn’t have to complain and give a lower review, because the place is so great and deserves a 5 star rating, its just unfortunate that there is a lack of communication & urgency from the front office staff, like I say, we do hope to return in the future, because we thoroughly enjoyed the resort, the cabin and the views, we also wish to have the proper experience and not have to battle with no power and no warm water and wifi issues. I hope when we return, the communication with guests is better and that management have perhaps looked into alternative back up power solutions, if you’d like to look at solar/generators/inverters and batteries, please contact me, as it’s the line of...
Read moreThe area in Underberg is really nice but unfortanetly we had a bad stay at this accommodation as it was very dirty, mouldy and quite old. It doesn't actually match the description on the homepage, booking etc. as the place was not renovated or modern at all. The floor was dirty and even the cupboards were filthy and the equipment was run down. We wanted to use the tin opener but it was damaged. In the next morning it turned out that someone else also complained about it and it never got changed. We asked our neighbours for one to lent us and theirs didn't work properly either. So in the next morning I told the manager about the experience in the apartment. I told him that I really love the area and that the personal seems to be nice and that I just want to be honest. So I showed him the pictures of the mould and dirt and told him that we didn't have a good time at his place. I kindly even gave him a few more suggestions on what can be changed to make customers fell more comfortabel. He thanked me for that and he wanted to have the pictures too. He told me that he was sorry for everything and offered us a free night at his place. As we didn't fell comfortable and wanted to carry on with our roadtrip towards Cape town, we asked if it's possible to refund the night we paid for instead. He agreed to that and told us to ask for the refund via Booking and that he will confirm it as soon as they contacted him. We trusted him and then the shock followed - Booking wrote us that he rejected the refund even though he told us that he would confirm it. He even lied as he wrote to booking that he never told us that. It is really sad the way customers get treated there and we can unfortunately not recommend this place after all the trouble we had. We actually saw on Booking that people complained about those things before and he never...
Read moreRooms were half cleaned when we got there. We got old bread in the kitchen and masks behind the sleeper couch. Reception was friendly with check in and said we can phone them anytime we need anything.
We headed out early after our first night. Some in our group slept cold. on return about an hour from the resort we phoned reception to arrange some extra blankets. The lady at reception was rude and told us they do not have extra blankets we should rent a gas canister for R200 instead. What resort doesn't have extra blankets? The rule of thumb is one in the wash and one on the bed. I would rather sleep with the oven door open than rent a gas canister.
They have a Check list with all the items that are given. GO THROUGH THAT LIST. We had braai tong checked as there, but there was no braai tongs in sight.
The chalet wiring was very weird. The Stove tripped the Distribution board When the oven and stove plate was on. Same with turning on the lights in the second bedroom.
They give one role of TP per Chalet per day. Bit of a mess if you are a group of 6. When we ran into problems, we went to reception to ask for more. Guess who wasn't at there.
When we checked out we could hear the lady from reception next door, but she ignored us even after knocking and shouting for assistance.
Besides the view and dams, treat this place as a satellite camp. You are bascially on your own. Special thanks to management for the wifi. It...
