We arrived here for a single night layover and were greatly disappointed.
*note: most of the other reviews are just about the restaurant and not about the hotel itself.
• Accommodation: The rooms are old and definitely not what I expected from a luxury hotel. The bathrooms had been renovated but still not up to a luxury standard that I would’ve expected for the insane price they charge.
Upon arrival we also noticed that our bedsheets were dirty and our airco was leaking, leaving a puddle of water on the ground. We alerted the staff and they replaced the beddings but told us that the airco leaking was normal and we should put a rug beneath it (the owner later apologised and compensated us with a bottle of wine).
For wifi we each received redeemable coupons.. 2 coupons per person that could be used for a single day, with a limit of 500mb. You go to a luxury hotel and receive redeemable coupons for wifi, how greedy.
The rooms were very disappointing to say the least…
• Amenities: There is a small pool with cloudy water and some pool chairs but that’s about it.
As for the vineyard itself.. it would be an overstatement to call it one. It’s just a couple of short rows and its “walking route” takes like 5-10 minutes.
• Food: The food itself was great as you can see from the other reviews but everything around it was not. We weren’t provided with a menu (they forgot to print it out apparently), so we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into (price wise). We had a couple of menu options which the waiter recited from a piece of paper and we had to make a choice on the spot.
The food was tasty, the only complaint was that I asked my meat to be cooked medium and it was close to being fully well done (*note my phone camera, in the attached pictures, makes the meat look a lot more pink than it actually was).
The big problem came the day after during checkout. R2700 for a 2 course dinner, very overpriced, they charged R400 for Beef Fillet and R40 for a bottle of water.
• Conclusion: If you decide to stay here you’ll definitely be dissatisfied. The rooms are heavily overpriced, the food is heavily overpriced, the owner is really greedy and the service is mediocre at best. We will not be...
Read moreWe like to do road trips in South Africa. The latest one took us through Western Cape, from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town, over eight days. We stayed at some fabulous places, which unfortunately did not include Fraai Uitzicht despite its huge potential and scenic location. Because when factoring in what we actually payed for accommodation it didn't live up to expectations - as this was the most expensive guesthouse over the course of our journey, by a long shot. ||||So our two bedroom unit, Sauvignon, was directly adjacent to the lobby/restaurant. The view was great, overlooking vineyards and flowery fields, with the ubiquitous mountains in the background. The interiors and furnishing were rustic at best. A common room flanked by two spartan bedrooms. The bathroom was not good. The shower lacked curtain so water sprayed over the concrete floor making it slippery. And the towels were a disgrace for a four-star establishment, threadbare and small (I couldn't even wrap them around me, and I'm not even that fat). ||||The dinner was great, and we appreciated the help from Karl the manager who offered advice on food and wine. The breakfast, however, left a lot to be desired. I'm not a huge fan of breakfasts brought to the table. If I want another toast or glass of juice I prefer to get it myself, rather than having to ask for it. Especially when staff are not present for a long time. ||||The pool looked inviting, but never got around to using it. We appreciated the three labradors roaming freely on the grounds even though my wife is allergic, but other...
Read moreLovely location and gardens. Rooms are a big disappointment only stay if you can have 1 of the 2 rooms facing the poo. We had an alcove bed, jammed right up against the wall on 3 sides leaving one short side to climb in on if you were tall enough as it was very high. They brought me some steps! but I thought it was too dangerous and spent a night on the small sofa. Shower was in middle of room on grubby concrete floor, had to move everything out of the way to avoid it getting wet.Another just as bad room had a bed sunk in the floor. We got moved for next 2 nights and had an adequate room looking out on a small patch of grass surrounded by a hedge. Restaurant food was very good but breakfast was a joke, very miserly, tiny amount of fruit and low quality meat and cheese an and wow you could have an egg. Prices are higher than website,we booked for 3 nights 11 months before our trip so why did we get such a rubbish room. They have 3 lovely black labs that are very friendly so avoid if you don't like dogs. Setting food etc great, Rooms rubbish apart from 2 I could go on for ever, website very misleading read between the lines and don't stay unless in one of the 2 lawn rooms oh and bring your own water as they don't even give you a free bottle or jug of filtered water just charge exorbitant mini bar prices, what a shame, a gem spoilt by meanness and the need to improve rooms, I am still very annoyed and would report to...
