If your ideal getaway is a 5 star luxury hotel, being served by waiting staff and having somebody at the ready to assist with your constant need for more luxury...then please don't book a cottage at this establishment.
This establishment is for the less entitled person who loves spending time in nature, outside and thinks a rustic little cottage is exactly what they need to relax, unwind and appreciate awe-inspiring sunrises with birdsong to start your day and the most picture perfect sunsets that will instantly make you realize that this place is where magic happens.
If you suck at braaing, which each cottage caters for, then make use of the prepared meals options or take your own finger foods with...the cottages have a fridge, a 2 plate gas stove, running hot and cold water and comfortable beds. They also have these quaint little splash/relaxation pools at each cottage where you can enjoy a beer or glass of wine (that you get yourself and don't get served) while you watch the magnificent orange sun perch behind a beautifully rushing stream in a painted sky of every hue of pink, blue and purple while you wait for your braai fire to reach temperature to braai.
This is not the place for high heels, white satin pool attire and a bell to ring for service (unless you're a bride having your one-of-a-kind wedding at the wedding venue)...this is a place where when the wind blows the breeze is welcome even if it messes up your hair, because nobody gives a hoot about how you're enjoying yourself, just that you really are.
Thank you Johan, Vida and the beautiful little sausage mix jackrussel doggie that made us feel welcome and relaxed...next time I'm packing the doggie in to come...
Read moreI don't even want to give it a 1 star. Let me start at the outside....., the 'splash pool' as it is advertised, was green and dirty. Then you can't even lock the cottage if you want to go somewhere because there is no key. Then the inside of the cottage OMW.... I know it is self catering, but at a R1990 a night, you at least expect clean bedding. The shower curtains were stained and had mildew on. I've seen a lot of cottages/R BNB's, self catering rooms, you can add a few other BNB's, they all provided coffee and milk (again, R1990 a night) and they aren't even a 2 star accommodation. The owners call it a rustic event.....I call it basic. The only thing that is nice about this place, is the scenery, but again, that is part of nature. YOU CAN'T BUILT A FEW COTTAGES (BADLY BUILD) AND CALL IT RUSTIC. I will never refer this place to anyone. Maybe if they make the price at R450 per night for the cottage and not per person, it would...
Read moreBeing a traveller for 35 years I have got a fair idea of the ins and outs of accommodation world wide. Make no mistake this is a wonderful setting. Serene, beautiful and an ideal place to get away from the hustle and hustle of city life, or to have a romantic weekend away. The sound of the river, pitch black evenings that show you our beautiful solar system. However, the accommodation is pretty cramped. No towels and extra toilet paper. Were a little disappointing. Don't get me wrong it's beautiful here and as a venue it's stunning for weddings etc and by the looks of the uploaded photos there have been many happy occasions here. My rating is only based on my stay in a small cottage so please keep that in mind . A definite 4.5 for functions etc and maybe the other cottages are a lot bigger. My ratings are based on my...
