Pure perfection! If you're looking for an off grid, off-the-beaten path getaway, Eco Karoo Lodge is definitely it! The lodge is nestled in the Karoo and there's a fair stretch of dirt road to get there, though you don't need a 4x4. It is a self catering Lodge, though kitchen facilities are communal. The room we stayed in was 2-bedroom (each had a fire place, which is very much needed during the colder months), an indoor shower and outdoor shower. The styling & decor is simple yet stylish and elegant, while still being super comfortable. The room included one nights' worth firewood, with extra wood available at a small additional fee. The views from the communal kitchen and living area are breathtaking and perfect for taking in gorgeous sunrises. The kitchen is very well equipped, with pretty much everything you could need to whip up a tasty meal. There's an outdoor wood braai and a free-standing gas braai. Activity wise, there isn't much to do on site other than 2 hiking trails and quad biking but this is more the kind of spot you go to to unwind and escape the hustle & bustle of city life. There is a small pool as well but the weather was too cold for us to use this. If the lodge is fully booked, I'd imagine the pool wouldn't be able to accommodate everyone in it. Sydney was our host and was very friendly and helpful. His knowledge of the starry night skies was super impressive and we had incredible views of the milky way. The night sky was probably the clearest and "starriest" we've even seen (best to go when it's not the full moon & skies are dark). Last thing worth noting is that there's no on site shop and no shops close by so make sure you pack everything you need.

I love this place. And as much as I keep wishing it was closer to GP, I realise that part of my joy comes from the fact that it’s in the middle of nowhere. It’s a great space that feels no-fuss in all the right ways. The owners and caretaker were nothing short of gracious during our stay. Loved hiking, cycling, sleeping and just resting. My doggo LOVED it so much! He felt like a young Simba in his kingdom - climbing mountains, trail runs etc! It’s a little tricky with other guests on the property when your dog loves people and just wants to greet everyone - but for the most part it wasn’t too much of an issue when we shared the space with dog lovers/or at least people that know and understand dogs. It’s worth the trip. If possible, go as a group - but not necessary as the property accommodates a good small number of people. Also… and importantly! Really great pricing. PS- Get your groceries from a bigger city before entering Luckoff - the local grocer can be limiting if you’re specific with your likes. Also, travel with a spare-wheel🙃🙃 iI’ll be back as soon and often as possible! Alfred! Bert! Klass! Lynne! Thank you plenty - for going the extra mile and making this place feel like home… again, in all the best ways🌸 Keep it simple, that’s where the gold is. I have a greater appreciation know the intricacies of running such a business in such a small town. I wish everyone here continued growth

The silence is breathtaking, the views were gorgeous sunrise and moonrise. Sydney the caretaker really made us feel welcome with clear instructions. The room and communal kitchen was very clean. However the shower is designed very poorly, it's open plan adjacent to 2nd bedroom so no privacy if staying with a family. Water also gets into the main bedroom which made everything very gross with wet feet while getting to the toilet. No mats or carpets in bedrooms or toilet, the floors were ICE, with added water from shower. It was FREEZING that our water bottle froze over night. Since there's no heating or carpeting in rooms, it would be nice if 1st fire was complimentary as there is NO other way to stay warm in the room other than a fire and you need to buy the wood. lots of road works , stop and go. Lots of gravel roads which are difficult to navigate for normal cars, not sure if it's totally worth the drive. However Sydney the caretaker is a gem!

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Eco Karoo Lodge, and we were thoroughly impressed by our experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the warm hospitality of Johannes, our gracious host, whose friendly demeanor instantly made us feel at home.

Nestled in the serene wilderness, Eco Karoo Lodge offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The peaceful ambiance enveloped us as we stepped onto the property, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Karoo landscape.

One of the standout features of our stay was the impeccable cleanliness of the lodge. Every corner radiated with freshness, reflecting the dedication of the staff to maintain a pristine environment. It was evident that great care is taken to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of guests.

The accommodations were not only immaculate but also thoughtfully designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings. Our room provided a cozy retreat, complete with all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. Waking up to the gentle sounds of nature outside our window was truly rejuvenating.

Moreover, the tranquility of the surroundings allowed us to unwind and reconnect with each other amidst the beauty of the Karoo. Whether we were lounging on the veranda, taking a leisurely stroll through the gardens, or simply enjoying the starlit sky at night, every moment felt like a cherished escape from the chaos of the outside world.

Overall, our experience at Eco Karoo Lodge exceeded all expectations. Johannes' warm hospitality, combined with the serene atmosphere and impeccable cleanliness, made our stay truly memorable. We left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and already looking forward to our next visit to this hidden gem in the heart of nature. We wholeheartedly recommend Eco Karoo Lodge to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat amidst the beauty...

We stayed at the lodge on our anniversary weekend and really had a wonderful time. The location and scenery is perfect, relaxing and peaceful.

We were greeted by Ntombi who are a great host and "receptionist" and very welcoming and friendly.

A few points that we were dissapointed in: Shelves or a table is needed in the rooms we did not know where to put our luggage and belongings, it seems awkward putting it on the bathroom counter as it seemed like the place to put it.

The shower is a bit uncomfortable and the water was luke warm. I noticed they make use of a gas geyser which is better in my opinion, but I would suggest to change the settings a bit in the winter. I think the layout of the shower is a bit inconvenient as you're basically showering in what seems so be a "semi-kitchen", since it's the only place where there's a counter (we did not want to put our wine in the fridge of the communal kitchen). The floor was still wet until the next morning from showering.

Value for money: You're paying for privacy and the scenery. Paying the room rate you'll expect to get something more than what other places offer, but the toilet paper is maybe 1 ply and also by using the wood in the room next to the fireplace cost more, I would expect it to be included as the rooms are expensive. If the room rate was a bit lower I'll be able to ignore these things. I understand that some guests might misuse the wood by making bon fires etc with it, but rather instate a policy saying that the wood in the room won't be refilled once it's used by guests.

We bought wood from Ntombi and wanted to pay cash, she did not have change and we had to pay with card and that cost more than paying cash.

The lodge is very stylish, neat and clean. I think with a few basic changes and offering more for the room price this place is a...
