Induli Game Lodge - Amakhala Game Reserve — Hotel in Makana Local Municipality

Full disclosure: Our weekend was gifted to us and so we did not pay for it ourselves. That said, those who know me will know that I do not mince my words and speak honestly and from the heart. ||In the light of that, below is my account of our stay at Induli Lodge. Despite others telling us about their safari experiences at other reserves and lodges, I worked really hard to hold back on my expectations so as to avoid any disappointment. What a completely unnecessary effort. When reality hit, there was absolutely no reason to do so. ||The Induli team works together seamlessly to provide an experience that rivals any world class offering. Their incredible “how can we serve you” attitude and anticipation of your every need makes the time spent with them so incredibly relaxing and completely unforgettable. It allows you to relax, knowing everything is taken care of, leaving you to focus on and simply enjoy the experience of your safari drives and experiencing the animals in their natural environment. ||Induli Lodge provides the perfect balance of luxurious elegance and rustic charm that makes you marvel at the venue while still feeling completely comfortable and at home. The attention to detail at Induli Lodge is unrivalled from the instant you arrive until your last minute with them. I will not share many details, only because the surprise of discovering them first hand would be destroyed and every detail forms an intricate yet massive part of the web that pulls together this unbelievable experience. |Do not miss out on the hot chocolate Thando makes with his “secret” recipe. All I will say about that is this coffeeholic could be converted. ||The meals are unbelievably scrumptious and homely while simultaneously delivering beautifully plated pieces of edible artwork. (We took almost as many photos of the food as the animals). In addition to this, every meal is ready at the correct time, even when the safari game drive is delayed because there is a sighting of the cheetahs on the far side of the reserve and your driver makes the extra effort to ensure you get to see them. The chef and other kitchen staff made sure it was hot and not overcooked but perfectly done on our return. ||Every return to our room was also an experience with even more incredible little touches like the hand written notes that are so personal amongst so many more thoughtful gestures. ||Our driver for the safari experience, Bulela, was knowledgeable and had an incredible (spelt “wicked”) sense of humour that brought a fantastic element to the drives. His efforts to ensure you experience not only the big 5, which are an absolute treat, but also see and appreciate the smaller elements and animals of the greater eco system was fantastic. It left us with both a knowledge of and greater understanding of the vital role that everything in the reserve plays to the survival of everything else on the amazing Amakhala Reserve. It was also fascinating to hear about, and even see a little of the conservation work being undertaken to ensure that the reserve and the animals are around for future generations to enjoy. ||Your hosts at Induli Lodge, Matt and Ann (and little Charlie) are understated gems of the lodge and such a pleasure to meet. The lodge has been a long-term dream of Matt’s and his knowledge of the area is unrivalled. Ann brings her bubbly personality and exceptional eye for décor that take the lodge from simply good to absolutely amazing. Her dishes were not only delicious but made with passion and a touch of fun that made dining a highlight of our stay. Thando ensured our glasses were never empty, crafting some of the best drinks we’ve had and always being on hand with a smile and top-tier service. Bulela, our game ranger, was simply the best. His deep passion for wildlife and incredible expertise ensured we spotted the Big Five and so much more. His knowledge and enthusiasm made each drive an adventure, and his commitment to conservation was truly inspiring.
