Protea Hotel Harrismith Montrose — Hotel in Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality

Its a very convenient location to stop at on the way, the night shift lady was helpful and suggested we wait till the morning to make payment as our reservation was delayed getting to them because we made it on the marriott app. The next morning they wanted to charge us non member rates on checking out, they still hadnt recieved our reservation.

The kettle looked like it hadnt been washed out in ages so we opted to get tea at the mugg n bean, the hotel gives you a 20% off voucher for purchases at mugg n bean but for some reason the person at mugg n bean didnt put the voucher in, i was not going to argue as we only purchased 2 drinks. This is a basic roadside pit-stop motel for people traveling between Jo-burg and Durban. I had a huge issue of being double charged (once through my reservation, once at the front deak) for my room that took me dozens of emails, getting Marriott management involved, and months to resolve. Honestly, at some point it felt as if the team at this Protea Hotel were simply waiting for me to give up trying to get my money back by waiting me out. It was only the pressure from Marriott management that forced them to return the duplicate charge.

I would avoid this hotel if at all possible. I imagine that I am not the only hotel guest they've double charged...

Great place to stay if you want to break the journey from Johannesburg to Durban. The hotel delivers on cleanliness and comfort with all the usual amenities. The staff are welcoming, professional and efficient, especially Jaunita & Belinda who couldn't do enough for us. The hotel doesn't have a restuarant, but there are plenty of fast food vendors within yards of the hotel who will deliver your chosen fare to you. You could also consider the Riverview Country Inn which is just up the road for a sit down tasty meal. The hotel has a small pub called The Highlander...
