Highlighlanders Campsites and Lodges is a lovely, small vineyard in the stunning Cederberg region of South Africa. The setting is breathtaking, and the relaxed vibe, combined with a great bar and pool, makes it a great place to unwind.

The wine tasting that they offer is a highlight—not only is it well-priced, but it’s also a fantastic way to sample some excellent local wines that are made from grapes at the vineyard. We stayed in the lodges, which were beautifully designed and very comfortable.

That said, a few small improvements would make the experience even better:

No WiFi: The lack of WiFi onsite and limited phone signal made it tricky to stay connected. While it’s not a dealbreaker, having internet access would have been really useful as this was our first stop after Namibia.

Broken Lock: The lock on our lodge door wasn’t working (I think we stayed in Sauvignon Blanc), which felt a bit inconvenient, even though the site itself feels very secure.

Hot Water Issues: The water in the lodge took a long time to heat up, which wasn’t ideal and made me conscious of the amount of water being used.

No Breakfast: There’s no breakfast available onsite, and given the remote location, it’s worth planning ahead unless you’re set up to cook for yourself at one of the camping facilities.

Despite these minor points, I’d definitely stay here again. It’s a wonderful place, and with a few small upgrades, it would be...

I visited the Highlanders Campsite in May, 2025, as part of a Kiboko Adventure Safari and ... this place is awesome!|Where do I start? The incredible views over the lush vineyards towards the stunning mountains. The crisp clean air. So beautiful.|The facilities. Sparky (the owner) was smart enough to get his brilliant wife to assist in the planning of the amenities and doesn't it show! The incredible views from the shower stalls; the mirrors placed at just the right height on the back of the shower doors - this is especially important for short-sighted, shorter women who can't lean far enough over the vanity to see in the other mirrors; the cleanliness.|The pool - so clear and clean and cool.|The beautiful gardens. The bar, outdoor and indoor sitting areas, the shop with its range of teas, wines, clothing items...|And Sparky. What an interesting guy! He obviously loves his farm and the camping area/lodge that he's created. |Make sure you visit if you're...

A beautiful working vineyard and hospitality grounds. The scenery was spectacular and the perfect setting for a pleasant eve wine tasting amongst friends. The room, pool, grounds, and bar were well designed and laid-out in accordance with the owner’s vision. I had a nice conversation with the owner on the morning of departure. He shared his story of how he came to be the owner; what it looked like when he bought it; his vision and effort to operate the hospitality and farm businesses. It was an inspirational conversation. As I leave I will be cheering for their success and great lifestyle. If you’re looking for a peaceful place to relax, lounge by the pool, and enjoy some wine - this...

Highlanders was a great start to our overland tour. A beautiful campsite with great hosts who treated us to a wine tasting experience and a deliciously prepared supper. The ablution blocks were clean and well thought out with fantastic views from the showers. The site had a pool and is next to vineyards.
