Highlighlanders Campsites and Lodges is a lovely, small vineyard in the stunning Cederberg region of South Africa. The setting is breathtaking, and the relaxed vibe, combined with a great bar and pool, makes it a great place to unwind.
The wine tasting that they offer is a highlight—not only is it well-priced, but it’s also a fantastic way to sample some excellent local wines that are made from grapes at the vineyard. We stayed in the lodges, which were beautifully designed and very comfortable.
That said, a few small improvements would make the experience even better:
No WiFi: The lack of WiFi onsite and limited phone signal made it tricky to stay connected. While it’s not a dealbreaker, having internet access would have been really useful as this was our first stop after Namibia.
Broken Lock: The lock on our lodge door wasn’t working (I think we stayed in Sauvignon Blanc), which felt a bit inconvenient, even though the site itself feels very secure.
Hot Water Issues: The water in the lodge took a long time to heat up, which wasn’t ideal and made me conscious of the amount of water being used.

The incredible views over the lush vineyards towards the stunning mountains. The crisp clean air. So beautiful.|The facilities. The bar, outdoor and indoor sitting areas, the shop with its range of teas, wines, clothing items...|And Sparky. What an interesting guy! He obviously loves his farm and the camping area/lodge that he's created. |Make sure you visit if you're...
Read moreA beautiful working vineyard and hospitality grounds. The scenery was spectacular and the perfect setting for a pleasant eve wine tasting amongst friends. The room, pool, grounds, and bar were well designed and laid-out in accordance with the owner’s vision. I had a nice conversation with the owner on the morning of departure. He shared his story of how he came to be the owner; what it looked like when he bought it; his vision and effort to operate the hospitality and farm businesses. It was an inspirational conversation. As I leave I will be cheering for their success and great lifestyle. If you’re looking for a peaceful place to relax, lounge by the pool, and enjoy some wine - this...
