Relaxing, comfortable and Pet Friendly place to stay! The drive from Johannesburg to Piet Retief was perfect for a weekend away. The warm welcome we received from the hosts Elsie and Pieter made us feel like family... as if we've known each other for years, even though we just met. We could feel the stress of city-life leave our bodies the moment we set foot on the farm. Our Yorkie looked like she was in heaven as she could run around freely and integrated seamlessly with the other dogs on the farm. We hardly saw our 13-year-old son, as he made friends with other kids (guests) visiting the farm and could roam freely. All the kids enjoyed playing and cycling, on and around the farm. We also enjoyed fishing, lounging in the sun at the pool, learned more about the animals on the farm (interacted with Horses, Emus, Monkeys, Parrots, Peacocks, a kitten and friendly dogs). We also made new friends around the "braai". The rooms have a "rustic" feel and very comfortable, well equipped and the hosts very accommodating! We had an amazing relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city! Can't wait to...
Read moreI would give this place no stars if I could, false advertising and misleading. First the road to this place is extremely terrible there are huge potholes all over the place for at least 10kms, so make sure you have a 4 x 4 because you cannot afford to get stuck its in the middle of no where with no signal. The place looks nothing like advertised this is maybe how it looked 30 years ago. They are capuchin monkeys in cages they are old and very small. The place it self is very run down old and river deck is completely broken and dilapidated. The rooms roofs were leaking on our bed and the bedding had stains on and smelt very bad. I would not recommend this place to anyone its defiantly not worth paying for or free for that matter. Its only a pity we didn't take any pictures because we were in such a hurry to get...
Read moreThe place is lovely, the owners are very nice, and they look after you. It is beautiful to eat breakfast by the lake. They have a lot of animals in the farm, including 2 servals you can pet, some monkeys, owl, emus, peacocks, chickens, and geese. The rooms are very good and clean, and its shower was one of the best I showered in. We ate dinner and breakfast, both were really good, and served to us by the nice stuff (note that the dinner is a bit pricey but it's very big and well worth it).
**On a side note, because they live in a farm there internet is satellite and you will not have wifi in the room, but they will let you use in the reception when ever you need it. Also you will most likely won't have signal with your south African sim, because it is located on the...
