It was my first time in the Wateberg and Izingwe Lodge in Welgevondedn only 3 - 3,5 hrs from Jhb didn't disappoint.||The lodge had 3 free standing magnificent rooms with a superb central lounge/ viewing deck/ bar, pool and kitchen area. The evening boma next to to the hide over the waterhole (resident game all day) put the cherry on the cake for a completely exclusive Game Lodge Experience.||Rather than sharing the lodge with others you take the whole lodge (sleeps 6 adults and young kids ) and you have exclusive use of the game vehicle including when and how you want to do your game drives. The usual morning and evening game drives are an option or you can organise a day trip with a picnic lunch in the bush at no extra cost.||For food you have the option of taking your own food and drink and this will be prepared by their excellent cooks or you can go fully catered. We took our own and this worked out great! The lodge is fully serviced so no cooking or cleaning required. We did braai our meat but that was our choice.||Game viewing was expectional with the usual suspects but the rhinos, birds, tracking a male lion for 40 mins and watching a cheetah hunt made our trip!||Next time we go we will go with 3 couples for 3 nights and plan a day trip for the second day. If it is quality, relaxation and exclusivness you are looking for then Izingwe Lodge is the place to go.||I've attached some pics as I really cannot do Izingwe justice in...
Read moreSometimes you worry about over-praising something for fear that others coming afterwards will feel that you’ve overdone it. Not here. The whole experience at Izingwe is exceptional. Just on arrival, going into the main lodge takes your breath away: both the magnificence of the lodge itself and the fabulous panoramic view of the veldt – it’s like a widescreen cinema experience. The other three sleeping lodges are also beautiful and extraordinary – you wonder how on earth Trish Wilson, the famous Texan interior designer, and her team managed to build all this way off the track 27 years ago!|But what really marks Izingwe out is the personal attention you get from Marion and Angus, who have been running Izingwe for 25 years, and the exceptional nature of the drives that they take you on. They know every inch of the wonderfully varied terrain and can ‘read’ the movements of the game from day to day. This was our first stay on a game reserve but, when I compared notes with other people afterwards, I found that you can often be in a queue of vehicles to see the game ! Not at Izingwe: occasionally, there were one, or a maximum of two, other Jeeps watching at the same time as us but, most of the time, it was just us. We loved the whole experience and felt incredibly privileged to be there. My son can’t wait to go back again with...

The five-star lodge offers intimate and luxurious accommodation in the midst of the spectacular African beauty of the Welgevonden Big 5 Game Reserve. The setting is spectacular with wide open spaces and vistas stretching for ever. It is a haven of sophistication surrounded by wild terrain. Perfect for anyone seeking privacy or simply time to reflect whilst searching for the Big Five or taking in the exquisite scenery from the quiet comfort of the lodge deck. The stylishly decorated suites boast a private wooden deck with spectacular views. |The manager, Marion and her team went out of their way to make our stay truly special! We had the most delicious meals and home-made treats prepared by Trafina throughout our stay. Our guide Angus is so passionate about what he does. He truly enjoys showing his guests as much as he can, and has a wealth of knowledge from his decades of experience. He was extremely accommodating and provided us with memories we will treasure for a lifetime. We even saw an Aardvark which was completely unexpected! |The overall quality of the lodge and game drives rate a well-deserved 5 stars and we hope to return in the...
