we booked in Matlapa Lodge with my family,Gustav and Rika assured us of how safe is their place and we trusted their words as they seemed genuine. They also promised TVs but there was no TV due to the high crime area in the Lodge. At 2AM while we were fast asleep, 2men broke into our shalet, armed with pangas, demanded money, they took everything that we head, including the car keys but they did not take the car. When they were about to leave i jumped and opened the front door screamed, ran to reception to wake Rika and Gustav, police were there within 5minutes.Gustuv and Rica were worried about my screams and even said it is not good for business i must keep it a secret. When police came i discovered that the Lodge is not safe,They always break in and a car was stolen last year.According to the cleaners, the lodge is not a safe place to be because the shalets are always broken into.Later on Gustuv said i must accept it this is Gauteng not Heaven.I am worried about the guests that booked after us because they are in danger ,there is no security in that Lodge. The owners looks nice when you pay but when there are such problems you are alone. The hooks that closes the doors are so small and weak even a small child can kick the door open. There is no security guard patrolling during the night like other Lodges. No burgler doors in situe. When the police advised them to improve security Gustuv said it is very expensive.Book at Matlapa at...
Read moreWe came here for a romantic weekend to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The lodge is situated about 5 mins away from the Magalies town. The chalet is advertised as self-catering, situated far from other chalets, with stunning views. The chalet is one room with an attached bathroom, and outdoor showering leading off from it. There are absolutely no self-catering facilities apart from a small bar fridge, some cutlery and crockery - no sink, microwave, etc. that you would expect from self-catering. Room is tired, with old furniture, and not antique furniture as advertised. In addition, there is a lack of privacy as the chalets are close to one another, Wouldn't call it a relaxing weekend lodge as there is no place at your chalet to sit comfortably, apart from some small iron chairs outside. Hostess also did warn us not to leave valuables in the chalet when we weren't there - strange thing to say. One positive is that the hostess was welcoming and the linen was clean. OK place to come if you are looking for somewhere to stop for the night, but definitely not as an end...
Read moreUpon arriving every thing seems OK. People friendly enough and views are beautiful. The logde is small. Bed is clean as is the bathroom. Nice garden.that where it ends. What you pay for and what you get is just not worth it. Every thing in the kitchen is just too small. Plastics spoons and plates. Tiny fridge. Difficult to wash things because the basin is tiny. It's OK if u eat out and just stay there. Due to the lapa lots of insects plus cockroachs and spiders. They need to give more attention to the units. Things are aging Needs to be maintained. For one night if u have to its OK. No TV in the rooms and nothing to do not even walk We stay alot in the areas other B B much better value for money. No fans or air cons to help with the heat. Breakfeast served very late. I understand some. Ppl eat late but some people are used to eating bf early. Most BB have different times that u can eat. Not a big problem but...
