We appreciated the friendly staff, comfortable bed and bedding, airconditioning, good breakfast and convenient location. Ideally, we wanted to mail our constructive feedback directly to the guesthouse/manager/owner, however, we couldn't track down an email address to do so.
Our Suite (#12) had small letdowns (mostly relatively easy fixes) that do not currently match the luxury experience promised: a longtime stagnant water feature near the entrance (in what is an otherwise neat courtyard), single-ply toiletpaper, unattractive exposed PVC plumbing pipes and black rubber goosenecks under the bathroom's wash basin stand, messy TV wiring, no coffee sachets (a simple oversight, I'm sure), and nowhere to convenienetly place/raise one's overnight bag (other than on the crisp white bedding).
The spacious room has a big wardrobe, yet it could easily accommodate a luggage rack for two small suitcases (as there's no point unpacking for a 1-night stay). The room also has space for a small fridge, which is usually standard for a luxury room.
A heavy rain storm while we were out caused the thatched roof to leak slightly leaving my suitcase in a puddle of water on the floor. It's a hardshell, so no damage was done, it's just something I'm sure the owners want to be aware of.
Not sure if a unit near us was a pet-friendly unit (or if he/she is a permanent resident) but a little dog barked every time a guest returned home from a wedding or event. Other than that, the location is truly peaceful, quiet and restful.
Breakfast was pleasant, the service courteous, and our check-out procedure very friendly. A final suggestion is that the cereals, fruits and yogurt which were on a low coffee table beside a wall, would be more easily accessible at hip-height on the buffet table.
Thank you so much for hearing me out. Monchique has so many positives, I just wanted to share what I thought would elevate it further in terms of a luxury...
Read moreOur room was facing to the parking lot - the noise of cars kept us awake until 1:00 in the morning. The bathroom door could not be closed, it was stuck on the floor. The room arrangement is terrible, and extremely cramped. Access to the seimming pool meant parading through the parking lot, than through the reception, than through the dining / balkony area - what a schlep. The wood of the toilet seat was lealing off, the water preasure was a trickle and in general the room was not very clean and in need for minor repairs. We had to ask for an extension cable because there are no plugs near any mirror to use a hairdryer. It is totally bejond me how this place can have such good ratings. We have been stash away in a dungen where you could not open a window due to the exhsust fumes from the cars in the parking lot. Absolutely no privacy and no peace - this place will not see us again and we will certainly relate our bad experience to anyone we...
Read moreWe chose the guest house by default as the venue close by to this guest house ,that we were attending a weekend wedding , was full with other wedding guests....THANK GOODNESS as Monchique proved to be really great choice - spacious, warm ,and comfortable bed , we stayed in Suite 9 and would definitely stay at Monchique again. The staff on duty were really great and arranged to drive and collect us at the the close by wedding venue and nothing was to much trouble , whereas my daughter stayed and froze for the weekend at the wedding venue accommodation whilst having water leaking through the roof at her accommodation on to her back in the bed.... - whilst we at Monchique were ever so comfortable with great service and breakfast/ dinner in the lovely dinning room .|Most fair value package all round ( can talk with conviction , as we ourselves owned-operated two guest houses for 28 years , so able to supply a creditable review based on...
