Where to begin! Staying at Honeyguide Lodge was a truly unforgettable experience in the heart of the Entabeni reserve. The lodge – and especially its staff – earns its stripes as a truly luxurious stay.

The lodge is nestled in breathtaking surroundings and furnished to a very high standard. The rooms are luxurious, well-equipped (heated mattress toppers, baths with a view of the plains, a private balcony and fireplace in each room) and it was routine for game to pass by closely on any given day.

Meals were served either in your room, or in the spacious indoor/outdoor dining area equipped with a multitude of sunbeds around the pool. Food prepared by Precious, Grace and David was always to a high standard and offered plenty of choice day to day (such as picking your choice of a main for dinner, or a drink to enjoy midway around your evening game drive). Wines and other additions, such as spa treatments by Hazel, were equally impressive and priced very reasonably.

The game drives themselves are stunning. The rangers are very knowledgeable and coordinate with other drivers to ensure you don’t miss sighting opportunities as they occur across the reserve. We repeatedly saw lions, elephants, giraffes, rhino's and numerous other species and the skill of the rangers play a big part in making this happen. Watching their tracking process and hearing their insights around the animals was truly fascinating – with particular kudos to our ranger Solomon for his energy and personable approach and to Charles for tracking down some very rare sights. The lodge provides hot water bottles and windproof ponchos as one of several displays of going above and beyond the impressions given of other stays on the reserve.

Last, but certainly not least, the staff make the sum of this already outstanding lodge so much more than its parts. They are attentive, friendly and provide the lodge with a genuine soul that never felt forced or inauthentic. There are too many names to mention – from Kate and Raymond's courteous and attentive service, to Conny running the show with a smile – who all played a part in making this a faultless stay.

The smallest details, such as ensuring your bed was warm and the blinds drawn for after your evening drive, or lighting the outdoor fire pit with the offer of a complimentary glass of sherry and scented face towel once you'd returned, truly made this feel above and beyond day to day guest service.

I can't recommend this...

An unforgettable experience from start to finish, with breathtaking views and outstanding customer service. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the entire team, with a welcome drink, hot towel and given a tour of the property, and seated for lunch with an incredible view.

Our first game drive that afternoon was magical. Our ranger made sure we saw elephants, lions, and cheetahs, zebras, and shared fascinating insights throughout. His knowledge truly enhanced the experience.

Returning to the lodge, we found the firepit lit and enjoyed a glass of sherry before dinner. The three-course meal, which we had pre-selected earlier in the day, was exceptional.

As the night turned cold, we relaxed by the fireplace in our accommodation—a cozy end to an amazing day.

The next morning began with a stunning sunrise and a 6:30am game drive. This time we spotted rhinos, buffalos, hippos and giraffes, checking off even more of the Big Five. Nick, our guide, once again impressed us with his expertise and thoughtful answers to all our questions. The drive was comfortable, complete with fleece ponchos and a pitcher of warm drinks.

Afterwards, a delicious breakfast was waiting for us again set at a table with incredible sights.

The team went above and beyond in every way. We especially appreciated their commitment to sustainability in an nature area like this and were constantly blown away by the views.

This lodge will definitely stands out among any other safari accommodations around in the area. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team—we can’t wait to return for a longer...

Luxury and adventure in one—Conservation Lodge was everything I dreamed of and more! From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the views and luxurious experience you get in the middle of the African bush. The cliffs, and the wildlife is everywhere here! I spotted elephants, wildebeest and impalas just by staying here. Entabeni national park is definitely better than Kruger in my opinion when it comes to wildlife sighting and less crowds. Plus the landscapes here are super unique. My friend and I rented a car and drove here from Johannesburg and it was an easy 3 hour drive. The accommodations were pure luxury—plush beds, spacious bathrooms, fast wifi and a private deck where I had my morning coffee while watching the sunrise. The infinity pool was the perfect spot to relax between game drives, and the food was a 10/10. The guided safaris were unforgettable. Our ranger Charles made sure we saw the Big Five, and because Entabeni is a private reserve, we got up close to the animals without the crowds and saw rare animals such as rhinos. I love that this lodge is sustainable, but with high-end comfort. It’s an absolute must for anyone looking for a luxurious yet authentic safari stay. If you’re thinking about booking, just do it—you won’t regret it!
