We spent 4 nights at Morokolo Safari Lodge in January. I would like to highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in a safari vacation. The executive suite was very large and well equipped for a self catering lodge. We were even lucky enough to see a small group of elephants pass by our property one morning about 100 feet from our bedroom window. The AC kept us cool on the hot days. The furnishings were comfortable and modern. The appliances were great for making our own meals. There is no grocery store nearby so you will need to pack everything you might want to eat or drink. There is a water purifier in the suite but we brought our own bottled water. We were the only 2 people at the lodge that week.|Niel was our safari guide. He was exceptional at guiding us to see the big 5. His knowledge of the animals and the park was amazing. He taught us a lot about the flora and the fauna we were seeing. He was actually as excited as we were when we got a rare leopard sighting one morning. We were lucky enough to see cheetahs, lions, water buffalo, elephants, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, impala, gazelle, kudu, baboon, wildebeest, crocodile and numerous bird species. We couldn't have been happier. We also got lucky with the weather.|I think the self catering is ideal because we didn't have to worry about getting back for dinner at 6pm when a lot of the animals are coming out of hiding. The safari timing was very flexible. Niel even came knocking at our door at 7pm to see a group of lions in the dark! close to our property. Crazy but amazing experience. We were the only ones out because the other lodges were at dinner. We didn't get champagne and caviar but we got the best safari viewing you could imagine.|The private reserve is tucked into small mountains making it much different from viewing on a savannah. The scenery is spectacular even if you aren't seeing animals. The private game reserve is attached to the much bigger Pilanesberg National park which you have access to. |My wife and I have travelled extensively.|Overall 5+ star experience as long as you don't mind cooking your own meals. The nightly rates are reasonable. I was so impressed that I will come back again with my adult daughter next year.|We rented a car from Lanseria airport and drove to the lodge. The N4 toll highway was an easy drive just don't...
Read moreWe had the utmost pleasure to be able to stay at Morokolo lodge in the Executive Suite for our 25th anniversary recently.
It was genuinely breathtaking to say the least.
First of all they rescheduled our stay as requested by ourselves due to the weather forecast that was unfavorable. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Not a lot of lodges would have done this.
Thank you so much to Neil who made our stay at the lodge something we will treasure for the rest of our lives. He is really a great asset to Morokolo Lodge and one of the reasons we will definitely visit again. His knowledge of the wildlife, fona and flora and overall knowledge is impeccable. We have learned and taken so much from our stay because of him.
Once again, thank you Neil for everything You went above and beyond what is expected. Thank you also for the beautiful bouquet that came all the way from Stilbaai, hence us saying above and beyond.
The rest of the staff was also so pleasant and they are also an great asset to your establishment. Thank you.
The privacy this lodge offerd was outstanding, the staff a mere phone call away if and when you do need assistance.
The lodge itself is very neat and well looked after.
This was truly an amazing experience.
We will definitely be...
Read moreWe were very impressed by the lodgings. It was obvious that care and time had been taken to ensure guest comfort.
I have the following issues though: there isn't much to do but the game drives so we expected to have a working pool and jacuzzi to enjoy. The jacuzzi had apparently stopped heating on Friday...no attempts has been made to repair this before we arrived. The ranger, Riaan seemed aware of this and yet no attempts to correct the entire weekend. The pool was unswimmable...dirty and murky the Saturday. Sunday, heavily chlorinated and still murky. While Jacqui made enormous efforts to put this right..she struggled as the pool guy was not around. I think this was really sad. My son was so disappointed that he couldnt swim.
I have to praise Jacqui, she was ever ready to help pleasant and hard working. She really was a lovely person.
The cleaners were hardworking and discreet. However, we had to ask for toilet paper and towels...I think some things dont really need to be requested if they look like they need replacement.
Riaan was ok.
Anyways, I would love to come back...not so sure if I would be better off looking for somewhere with better activities and value...
