I spent 2 nights here in late August 2025 in the Stable Room, apparently an upgrade, for a total of R10 200, DB&B.|The lodge is clearly upmarket and very much above the usual berg resorts (exclusive, no children) - and at that price so it should be. |The design of the lodge is very attractive, and the owners have clearly spent a lot of time and money on it. My room was enormous, with a huge and luxuriously fitted bathroom and a pleasant deck. Good linen and soaps etc. The lounge and dining areas are well appointed. There is a small pool on the deck too. The food was very good. Breakfasts very hearty and generous. Dinners, a 4-course affair, were well executed and very tasty. All in all, it was a lovely break and a pleasant surprise. The youthful and energetic staff are committed and obliging, Limdani, Siya and Ngobile especially. |There are, however, a few rough edges which a lodge of this quality needs to sort out. I offer these criticisms in best possible spirit.|The bed in the Stable room (in which Tom Cruise is once said to have slept) is a very low wooden platform which extends beyond the mattress for about 40 cm on either side. This makes it exceptionally uncomfortable getting in and out of bed. Behind the headboard is an unsightly dustbowl at least 50cm away from the wall. There are no plug points on either side of the bed, or even close by - which is now standard at any hotel, the bedside tables also perching precariously on the silly platform. Why it is necessary to have such a ridiculous contraption for a bed is beyond me, although the mattress itself is very good. Please hey rid of it!|The westward view from the lodge and the rooms is directly onto a rather non-descipt hill, beyond a large patch of lawns and scrub. Kamberg lacks the views of dramatic peaks and valleys one gets in other parts of the berg. This is just an unfortunate feature of the area, as are the ubiquitous potholes and dongas in the roads leading to the lodge - all of which makes it very trying once one leaves the N3. The poverty of the view is not enhanced, in my opinion, by the peculiar hanging chairs on the decks of the rooms which are very ungainly to look at and very uncomfortable to sit in. A normal, comfortable set of armchairs would suffice. There is no need for these gimmicks. |The staff, as charming and delightful d they are, made loud and disruptive conversation in the kitchen while i was eating, probably unaware of how the noise carried into the dining room. One really does not want to hear this constant racket over the carefully chosen background music!|The pool filter makes a loud and continuous mechanical noise which materially distracts from the silence, peace and quiet of the lounge area and deck, and the overall serenity of the atmosphere. It should be set to run from late at night until early in the morning, not from the morning to the evening!|Stephen and Nadia have definitely created a unique and lovely place but it requires some attention to detail such as the above if it is to satisfy a discerning clientele at this level.|Looking forward...

Our stay at Qambathi Mountain Lodge was simply exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and friendly staff who went above and beyond to make our baby-moon a relaxing and unforgettable experience.

The service was impeccable, with every staff member ensuring that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Special mention must be made of our host, Mandoza, who went above and beyond to take care of us during our stay. His attention to detail and personal touch made every moment extra special and truly memorable.

The food was another highlight of our stay, prepared by the talented Chef Sindy. Every meal was a delight, with a mix of flavors and textures that left us thoroughly satisfied. The passion and creativity that Chef Sindy puts into each dish was truly evident and we cannot express enough how much we enjoyed her food and the kindness of her entire team.

The lodge is surrounded by some of the most magnificent and pristine wilderness areas, and the horses, zebras, and springboks that roam freely on the property were simply a joy to be around. The feeling of having these beautiful creatures right on your doorstep is truly magical, and the love for animals that the staff and owners of the lodge have is truly a joy to see. We were amazed by the close encounters we had with these animals and it was clear that the staff takes great care in ensuring the well-being of the animals on the property.

Overall, we would highly recommend the ‘Love is in the air’ package at Qambathi Mountain Lodge to anyone looking for a luxurious, romantic and unforgettable experience. The owners should be proud of this piece of heaven they offer.

We will definitely be back for...

One of the best hidden gems of the world. Qambathi is a luxury, secluded resort which is extremely beautiful, serene and definitely more than a 5 star Lodge. This retreat extends beyond luxury accommodation and combines nature and wildlife enhancing and already amazing experience. The staff serve with warmth, excellence and go over and beyond to make your stay an absolutely memorable one. The resort is fabulous. designed to perfection for comfort, rest and relaxation. Modern contemporary with a hint of retro with attention to detail. The meals are divine. the best we've had in SA, Chef Cindy and her team are spectacular. Lindani, the front of house manager, is exceptional and amazing and assisted with making our stay even more wonderful by attending to every need and question. And he makes the best custom cocktails ever. The cleaning staff leave your room spotless and the evening turndowns, chocolates and the written bedtime stories are just delightful. The Spa treatments are extremely good, you have to have one to complete the Qambathi experince. Finally to Steven and Nadia you guys are the best and have the best resort. Your humility is so appreciated. Well done on an establishment that supercedes every expectation and is truely one of the best hidden gems of the world. Really a slice of paradise. I must visit for those with a passion for true luxury, exquite cuisine and an experience with nature...

We stayed in the Stable Suite for our honeymoon and overall it was a nice, relaxing time - but it didn't meet expectations. The food was very tasty - breakfast and the 5 course dinner - was probably the highlight of our stay. We did notice though, that the portion sizes for breakfast got smaller as the days went by. The service was really good. The property is peaceful but there isn't much to do so it may not suit guests looking for activities or variety. Probably a night or two would have been enough. There is horse back riding and a walking trail which we found to be neglected/not maintained. The scenery as we were driving to the lodge was beautiful but the lodge is located at the bottom of a valley so there was no good scenery from the room and around the lodge - maybe it is better in summer. Lastly, the roads are in a terrible condition. We tried both routes including the alternative one recommended by the property. Yes, you can probably make it without a 4x4 but I wouldn't recommend - very stressful. Although, this is not the fault of the property. Overall it was a pleasant stay but I would not go back.

What an unforgettable stay. We celebrated my 30th birthday here on the 22nd of October 2023, and even now, a year later, that memory still feels so fresh and dear that I wanted to write this review. From the moment we arrived, everything felt peaceful and authentic. The hospitality of the crew was truly heartwarming, every breakfast, lunch and dinner was freshly prepared with so much love and professionalism. The food, the views, the energy and the overall vibe were simply perfect. One of the highlights was going horseback riding with the beautiful Appaloosa horses, such a magical experience surrounded by nature. The animals on the farm, the tranquillity of the place and dear Milo, who was still there at the time and has sadly passed away since, made it all feel even more special. It’s a wonderful spot to disconnect from the busyness of city life and reconnect with yourself and nature. We carry the memories with us and hold everyone there close to our hearts. With love, Judith & Jordan

A beautiful drive to the lodge over the undulating grassy hills and cultivated lands, sets the mood for a quiet relaxing weekend. We were greeted on arrival by Siya who was attentive to our every need through the entire weekend. He selected our room and checked us in with a glass of sparkling wine. The meals were all beautifully presented and very tasty with their personal additions, sauces, jams, bakes etc. Ngobile explained the menus and the purpose of their blends of ingredients - so much passion. The walks around the property were interesting and picturesque. We did a couples spa treatment with two lovely ladies who really put their backs into our massages for over an hour. The Zebra, Springbok, and other animals added a further dimension of interest. The history of the buildings and surrounds was also fascinating and enforced the realisation that time stands still in remote places with so much natural beauty. Definately a place to add to your bucket list.
