A Tranquil Haven Amidst History: Elandsheim Guest Farm
This review is on behalf of Westville Boys’ High School. We have enjoyed two years at Elandsheim Guest Farm during our school’s Battlegrounds Tour.
Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of our Battleground tour, Elandsheim Guest Farm proved to be an enchanting retreat that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that instantly made us feel at home. The accommodations were nothing short of exceptional, combining rustic charm with modern amenities. The cozy cottages that housed our boys were comfortable and provided the perfect sanctuary after a day of exploring the historic battlegrounds nearby. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of our stay, from the caring and ever bright counsellors to the thoughtful touches that made us feel truly pampered. During our first stay, torrential flooding hit the area and our bus got stuck numerous times. The crew from the farm came out and saved us, even when we got stuck for the umpteenth time! Their patience, grace and all-round knowledge was a God send! Beyond the impeccable accommodations and lifesaving antics, it was the genuine warmth and hospitality of the staff that truly set Elandsheim apart. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel like part of the family, with every member of the team going above and beyond to ensure that our stay was nothing short of perfect. Whether it was offering insider tips on the best local attractions or simply sharing stories around the fire pit, their passion for hospitality shone through in every interaction. In addition to the unparalleled comfort and hospitality, Elandsheim Guest Farm also offers a wealth of activities to suit every interest. From assisting us with guided tours of the surrounding battlegrounds to leisurely walks through the farm's lush gardens, there's something for everyone to enjoy. We particularly enjoyed the opportunity to explore the rich history of the area, gaining a deeper appreciation for the significance of the battlegrounds that surround the farm. The endless list of activities they had for our boys was spectacular and kept them busy but entertained for the entire trip. In all honesty, our stay at Elandsheim Guest Farm was nothing short of magical. From the breathtaking scenery to the unparalleled hospitality, every moment exceeded our expectations. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or a base for exploring the rich history of the area, Elandsheim is the perfect choice. We cannot wait to return and experience the warmth and hospitality of this hidden...
Read moreWe booked this place which in some ways was very nice. The intern working there was charming and the cleaning staff were also very pleasant. The place was lovely and peaceful, and even the school group on the first night didn't disturb us. There is a hill nearby you can climb in an hour and a half for amazing views. However, in some places the centre advertises itself as offering selfcatering, which is misleading. We ended up taking the meals option because of this. They did help us by bringing a small fridge to our room, which we were very grateful for as we were self catering elsewhere and needed to put our stuff in the fridge. The meals were R215 per adult extra for dinner and breakfast. I thought at least we'll maybe get something nice to eat but the food was dire! Everything was done as cheap as possible. Pasta with a bunch of spice thrown in and what looked like frozen mixed veg. Unclear if any meat. Next night it was chicken schnitzel with yellow veins of fat running through the meat. The bacon was very obviously fried in old oil. Their staff eat the same food, I don’t know how they stand it. The last day things were better because there was a different staff member cooking. It felt like a rip off and if I did stay there again I would eat elsewhere. The other thing was when I was discussing the self catering option I was told I could 'rent the lapa' for an extra R400 a day! When I saw the lapa it was...
Read moreSix of us stayed in four of the wooden cabins on the property, and it was a wonderful two nights. While the stairs down to the toilet and shower in each unit are a little steep, my 85 year-old mother managed them easily.||The cabins are simply furnished, but wonderfully comfortable, and the cleaning staff do an excellent job.||I didn't have breakfast, but others in the party enjoyed it. We arranged to braai on our second night, and the staff furnished us with all the additional utensils we needed. ||I wish we'd had longer to explore the surrounding area, and walk around the dam, but what little we did experience, we loved. I would definitely stay there again if I'm ever around there again.||As for the area, it is an easy 16 km drive to Rorke's Drift, and the town of Dundee is close by. You might manage both those with an ordinary car, but if you're coming up on the road via Tugela Ferry I'd...
