A Hidden Gem That Feels Like Home Equestre B&B is more than just a stopover — it’s a place I find myself returning to again and again. This is my fourth visit, and every time I’m reminded why I love it so much. Uncle Hew and his team have created something truly special. From the moment you arrive, the scenery takes your breath away — especially at sunrise or under the full moon. The peaceful morning light stretching over the hills, with the quiet stillness of the land, is something you won’t easily forget. The rooms are immaculately comfortable, complete with gowns, slippers, shower caps, air-conditioning, and Smart TVs. You settle in instantly — it genuinely feels like home. But what truly sets Equestre apart is the heart behind the hospitality. Uncle Hew personally prepares your breakfast while you’re seated at the table, and his son assists him with an effortless, warm team dynamic that adds to the magic. It’s not just breakfast — it’s an experience. There’s even a Janco-approved braai setup, a lovely pool, and well-maintained facilities that make unwinding at the end of the day feel effortless. We’re now considering making Equestre our go-to stop when travelling between Gauteng and our family in Port Shepstone. That’s how much this place means to us. Thank you, Uncle Hew, for always remembering me — and for making each visit feel like coming home.

Attention: Comrades runners, Duzi canoeists, Amashova cyclists, business travellers, families on holiday and nature lovers escaping for a weekend! What an incredible week at Equestre Self-Catering Accommodation in Ashburton 10km outside Pietermaritzburg in KZN. I was thoroughly spoiled with gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, KZN curries, delicious cooked breakfasts, wildlife, stunning scenery and challenging running routes during my short stay. The luxury accommodation stands out for me as something unique - beautifully decorated with incredible attention to detail by the Fanner family. Comfort and quality was certainly prioritised in the design! Thank you Roger Fanner and the team at Equestre - your service was world-class and we will definitely be back - have already diarised my new trip! #sharethelove #kzn #bedandbreakfastlife

Absolutely fantastic race weekend away. Accomodation was just perfect. Comfortable and pristine in every way. The boma was just amazing to catch up after a long day at the racetrack. Once again, Hew your hospitality was nothing less then 11/10. We look forward to staying with you in the near future.

Wow what an amazing find! Better than a 5* hotel. Set in a quiet suburb in Ashburton it is a place to relax and unwind in a tranquil setting. Besides the lovely bedrooms and awesome big shower and thick bath sheets, spacious well equiped kitchen with stove and microwave it was the thoughtful extras that set this B & B apart. The dressing gowns and slippers, the bottles of water, yogurt and milk in the fridge plus the rusks, granola, and the filter coffee. The braai area in the large communal entertainment section fully equipped with everything you could possibly need in terms of crockery and cutlery and serving dishes. Also a large stove which was another thoughtful addition. With hands on very accommodating hosts it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend away for our entire...
