I recently stayed at Grey Goose in Newcastle with a group of 14 people, and unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. While the property itself has potential, the service and management fell short in numerous ways: Check-in Chaos: Upon arrival, we were given dirty rooms as the hotel had arranged late check-outs for others and didn’t account for our group. To their credit, they offered us complimentary lunch while we waited for the rooms to be cleaned, but this was not the first impression we were hoping for. Day Visitors Disruption: The hotel allows day visitors, and the atmosphere upon arrival was loud and chaotic. It only quieted down in the late afternoon, but by then, our group couldn’t even access the pool. We had to wait until the next day to enjoy swimming. Inadequate Catering: The hotel seemed unprepared to handle a large group. Breakfast was a frustrating experience every morning – there was never enough food, and the kitchen couldn’t keep up. One of the managers even had a shouting match with me, insisting they had to “prioritize 1 boiled egg,” which delayed everything else. Fried eggs took over 30 minutes, and sausages were perpetually late. Broken Promises: We had requested a special breakfast arrangement at 7:00 AM (as their usual breakfast starts at 7:30 AM), and while the staff initially agreed, they failed to deliver. We were left waiting with no explanation or resolution. Poor Attitude: The front-of-house staff appeared disconnected from the operations and lacked the warmth or professionalism you’d expect from a 3-star establishment. The overall attitude of the team was cold and dismissive, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests.
In summary, Grey Goose’s inability to manage a group of our size, combined with the unprofessional and indifferent attitude of the staff, made this stay a disappointment. While they made small gestures to compensate for the missteps, the overall experience left much to be desired. I wouldn’t recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a stress-free and...
