Newcastle Country Lodge — Hotel in Newcastle Local Municipality

We stayed at the Country Lodge the past weekend. We were part of a large group celebrating my husband 40th school reunion. Before we went, I had a quick scan to see if I could find any reviews on the lodge. After reading what was available, I was a bit worried about the comments. ||Let's just start by saying compare apples with apples. This is NOT a 4 or 5 star boutique hotel. It is a rustic country lodge on the outskirts of a midlands town. ||The rooms were very clean. The bed was super comfortable to sleep on and the pillows were just as nice. The towels were snow white and fluffy.||Yes sure the bathrooms need a little bit of a make-over, but it was still clean and neat for us to use.||The staff is very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good.||All-in-all I would say that the owner & staff are doing a brilliant job in creating a comfortable place to stay...

Another one of those comfortable but non-nurturing overnighters. Nothing really wrong but nothing overly right. ||Bed was OK, TV reception was good, no fridge, very soft and lean towels. ||However do hotels and guest houses not know those tiny shampoo bottles simply do not want to give up their contents? Once you have fought it out of there the hot water system is empty. ||At first I thought breakfast was going to be the normal boring. But they had the tastiest little corn fritters. They also had chicken livers. (not for me). So almost the usual. ||I simply couldn't not get the aircon to work. ||Photographs on the web are very misleading. And this place's is a case in point. For R700 not bad. ||But I'm looking for a nurturing room like at Yellowwoods in Empangeni or Cherry Tree Lodge in Bloemfontein. ||There must be one around New Castle. ||I...

Traveled to Newcastle for work and had to spend one night at Newcastle country lodge because our usual B&B was full, My colleague and checked the website and found the pictures quite satisfying and the scenery is beautiful however when we had gotten there that was not the case with the rooms. Rooms are dirty, bathroom has not been cleaned there was hair on my shower wall. The air con is quite ancient, has no remote and makes a loud noise whilst on. The bedding has discolored from what should be "white" and there is no duvet. The bed is very old and uncomfortable. I had requested a microwave and found a cockroach in it.
