We had a great time here and would highly recommend it. We needed a base for hiking, playing golf at the amphitheatre golf club and a little bit of relaxation. We chose this place because it provided on-site dinner, bed and breakfast and the walks looked good. The room was clean and well serviced each day and Paul and Patricia were always friendly and there when you needed them and they left you alone when you did not. There is a very good full day of hiking on and around their land, if you combine the various routes they suggest and add on a few extensions here and there( note- a few of the advertised walks no longer work and should be updated on their website).
The general quality of food was good but the icing on the cake for us was the Mauritian curry they provided for us on the last night. We have had a range of excellent curries in 15 countries around the world( we recently counted them). We both love authentic and well-cooked curries. Patricia has a family recipe which her own cook now seems to have improved upon. The lamb curry they cooked for us that night was absolutely exceptional – which is astonishing for a mountain lodge up in the Drakensberg mountains. Their Mauritian lamb curry was in the top 3 curries of all time for me, across those 15 countries i recently counted where we had eaten them (including india, sri lanka, Indonesia, UK, Thailand, South africa…….). I know I am going on too long about the food, but a memorable evening meal can be a big factor in how enjoyable your day has been.
So, give this place a try if you want high ridge and contour walks in the Drakensberg (eg the devils spine hike with an extra 2km off-piste contour walk along to the monster hanging rock through the protea), good food and wine and...
Read moreStayed for three fabulous nights at the lodge over christmas. What can I say about this place. Rooms were very clean and spacious. The lodge itself is very tastefully furnished. Sean the manager was very friendly and helpful, always on hand should you require any information. Food was excellent. What I did like is the fact you could make your own tea/coffee/Hot Chocolate in the restaurant area whenever you wanted, for free with homemade biscuits which were yummy. Pool area was very relaxing after a tiring day, geat for a cool down. A full size snooker table in the games room along with Dartboard and Tv kept everyone occupied in the evening. The location was absolutely stunning with fantastc views of the Drakensberg mountains. To have breakfast on christmas morning looking at the amazing view was incredible. There are several walks from the lodge which was great. Staff were very friendly and always pleasant and smiling. Just can't fault this place loved it would definately...
Read moreMy husband and I travelled by motorbike and our kids followed us in the car on a trip from Durban to Sun City and back. On our return trip we booked in at Lala Nathi and we were extremely impressed with our accommodation. There were 7 of us in total, 5 adults, my son whose 11yrs and our maids daughter who is 4yrs old. We had the stunning family room (19) which consisted of two bedrooms, a kitchenette and a beautiful full bathroom with bath and shower and my elder daughter and her boyfriend stayed in the stunning little bungalow no.18 which only had a shower but suited them. We arrived around 7pm and hadn't pre-ordered dinner but the staff were amazing and were very happy for us to order off the a-la-carte menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals that evening and breakfast the next morning was just as delicious. The trucks at night can be a bit noisy but we were all so exhausted that we all slept well and were extremely comfortable. We will definitely stay over at Lala...
