After a setbook with our original accommodation being double booked over the end of April long weekend - we managed to find this gem of a place - albeit 304km further away from our original choice.
It was an extremely stressful few days trying to find suitable accommodation after the double booking problems encountered. However the excitement of a confirmed booking at Kliphuis and thoughts of hiking the beautiful surroundings of this stunning and most beautiful region lifted our spirits and the excitement of going away for a relaxed getaway in beautiful surroundings spurred us on.
We arrived at Kliphuis around 3pm all excited yet rather exhausted ...... Only to learn to our absolute horror that we were once again the victims of a double booking error!!
Just when I started to believe that the situation could not get any worse, to our dismay we had to endure an hour of absolutely vile and obscene language profanities hurled at us by the owner Elsa - who at the time seemed to be under the influence.
She showed a complete lack of respect as her moods alternated sporadically from being apologetic the one minute to screaming and swearing obscenities at me and my children in full view of 2 other neutral parties, to screaming that we should get off her property in a most disgusting and vile manner.
This behavior from the owner was in stark contrast to the excellent reviews that we had read that greatly assisted us in making the decision to book at Kliphuis.
In the midst of the drama, I was able to record most of the abuse (in the event that this was required by authorities).
Sadly we never managed to enjoy the break the we had planned and returned home extremely frustrated and...
Read moreThis place is a true gem. We’ve been lucky enough to visit on two separate occasions, and we fell even more in love the second time around. It is so peaceful and calming, the perfect getaway from the bustling city. It’s impeccably clean, well equipped and beautifully decorated. Our kids love the llamas and the herds of goats and sheep that roam the estate, and spend a lot of time exploring and roaming. The renovated deck has stunning views of the mountains beyond, and is a lovely place for outdoor meals, and during winter there is a gorgeous fireplace to warm your feet by! Elsa is a warm, gracious and accommodating host and she has gone the extra mile for us during our visits. She has always treated us with kindness , it feels like you are staying with a friend! There are few places that leave a mark in your heart, and this one is one of those places. I have no doubt that if you visit, you will fall in love just as...
Read moreDie Kliphuis provided us with everything we needed, in a most beautiful setting. The beds were comfy, the water hot, and the gas stove meant we could also cook without stress during load shedding. Better still is the amazing fire place - which was big enough for us to braai on, and it even had an old style ‘oven’ above for baking with coals. The deck is the perfect spot to sit and watch the amazing sunrise, with our mugs of steaming coffee. What a treat to also be able to take our dogs along with us. We did a lot of walking through the farmlands. The views down the mountains to the east are beautiful, and to the west stands the imposing sandstone cliffs of a mountain peak called Rensburgskop. What a joy to experience life in the country away from the noise and bustle. Thanks to our host for welcoming us and making us feel right at...
