Located on the R74 from Bergville. The quick shop is outside at the entrance and a resort filling station is next to it.
Had a lovely stay at the resort. The resort has a hotel and self-catering. Relaxing walks with beautiful scenery and a variety of flora.
No load shedding as they get their power from Eskom and they have generators. Water is from mountain streams and can be drunk from the tap safely.
There are several hiking trails. These are more for adults and not for kids. There are 3 pools - one big one for the hotel and two near the respective units. Below the reception area, there is the pond, stables, bowls area, tennis court, trampoline, and mini-golf course. Horse rides can be booked via reception. There are other paid adventure activities outside the resort as well.
There are organised activities - get the schedule from reception as the website is probably not updated.
As there are no fences between the Royal Natal Reserve and the neighboring areas wild animals such as Eland and antelopes range freely though unfortunately, we didn't see any. The tame zebra seen in some earlier pics passed away a few years ago. The horses are beautiful and a rabbit is running around there as well. The peacocks we saw near the shop entrance area and inside on occasion. There are a lot of birds to look at in the area.
Directly in front of the dining area/reception is a flat, grassed area with the aviary on one side.
The games room which is across from reception, was entertaining for adults and kids with table tennis, table soccer, pool, air hockey, a Playstation as well as organized activities. The people assisting there were quite helpful. The game's bathrooms need a little TLC.
The self-catering apartment was super clean, and service excellent. Didn't run short of anything. Only downside is no aircon- really needed for the hot summer days. There is a bit of distance from the car to our unit though there is a path and a trolley available.
Housekeeping -Virginia- was so polite and sincere. The area is quite safe and secure.
The upper ensuite room with a balcony and an excellent view. That room had a double bed and a pigeon-hole style cupboard, a safe, and a table surface adjoining the bedroom area. There is a wall-mounted fan. The lower room had normal built-ins with two single beds. There is s pedestal with a lamp, but the main lights were overpowering without individual switches. No fan which considering there is no aircon is an issue. The underfloor heating didn't seem to work.
The lounge area has a fireplace and opens onto the patio area which has a big table and chairs with a braai stand on the side. There was no view from our unit as the bush surrounds except for the path around the unit. I think they should trim it back so there's a proper view of the valley.
The sleeper couch in the lounge opens easily on rollers and a protector, sheets, duvet, blankets, and pillows were provided.
The kitchen had a fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, and wall-mounted fan. Washing soap and dishwasher tablets were provided. The dining table was next to it. Theres are laundry services available and as such no washing machine or line. Uncapped wifi for surfing and streaming is available.
The bathrooms were decent. The tub upstairs didn't have a hand shower or shower head which does seem a bit wasteful if you need a quick wash after the pool for example. The shower downstairs was decent and the door opens fully and...

This leads to high tea...

I told them my complaints and they didn't seems to care one bit.
Because we were with friends at dinner I didn't want to complain at the table as not to ruin the Valentine's holiday for us all. So I brought it up with reception at the end.
The room does need some basic maintenance as well but that's not a big issue for me but the rest is.
Please let me know how you can remindy this situation, I spent a lot of money taking my wife away for Valentine's weekend and it was a disaster.
After giving them the feedback there reply was very defensive and even denyed most of what I said. This response came from Shalom Mashiri, I am very disappointed...
