We stayed at the pyramids motel 3 weeks ago. These are the negative points:
Price R850. In comparison to many b n bs we’ve stayed at a fair price based on what you get should be R400.
The entrance to the stairway to our “luxury” room was like a tradesman entrance of a factory. Dirty sliding door. Paint peeling off the stairs which incidentally are open to rain and are quite slippery as it rained while we were there.
The electric blanket although a good idea was in a poor state. The three pin plug had wires exposed to about 2cm out the plug top where the outer insulation of the cable was missing. I’m sorry I didn’t photograph it. The plug when we entered the room was lying on the floor next to the bed.
Covid protocol was lacking in part. Although there was a sign regarding mask wearing and a sanitising bottle was on the counter, one expects a temperature check at a hotel which was not done.
The canteen (although we didn’t venture to eat there) was poor. It was like a truckers canteen. Can’t comment on the food but the tables and chairs looked dirty.
The only redeeming quality was its half way location for an overnight stay between Johannesburg and KZN coast.
But seriously find another place! There are many even if you need to go a few...
Read moreTried a stopover at this quaint little motel from Gauteng to KZN.This afforded me to leave in the afternoon rather than the normal early morning excursion ( which would have been too tiring to drive all the way to Durban at that hour). It’s about 360 km from Pretoria and 260 km from Durban which makes for a more relaxed driving experience to the coast. This Motel dates from the 1960’s and feel a bit like a time warp that has been updated ( not necessary a bad thing!). Although it is quite old it is still quite clean.||This Motel refers to the famous pyramids of Egypt and the ancient Egypt theme is to been seen everywhere. Even the small bungalows are pyramid shaped.||The staff is very friendly and helpful. The menu for supper and breakfast is slightly expensive for what you get and the bar is adequate. The biggest plus point is the position of this institution. It is at the perfect halfway point for a trip to the South or North Coast from Gauteng(it is right at the bottom of Van Reenen’s pass just next to the main N3 road). ||So if you just need a quick dependable rest stop, which is...
Read moreThanx for our luxury charlet,we had a stay of a lifetime. We went for the cost and decided to stay halfway to make the trip shorter with the kids. Snow started to fall just before Harrysmith.Luckily we managed to get to the motel. Here we met the best people, the awesome Dutch manger and her team. Our holiday started with snow, so much that we had to stay here for 3 days. It was the ultimate best stayover. They supplied us with wood to keep us warm. Luckily we had a gas stove in our chalet and we were fully loaded with food in our camping trailer. The friendliness of the people makes it worth it.We enjoys our stay so much that we decided that we will stay over again on the return route. Thanx Peggy and your team. All the hard work trying to keep certain people happy with the extreme weather you had. We enjoys your place, friendliness and even hospitality. We will visit you again. We had a 4 season holiday!!!!don't know how to descried it in...
