Grootbos 5* private nature reserve is nestled in the hills overlooking a vast landscape of fynbos, beaches & mountains it's truly a sight to behold. It’s actually part of National Geographic’s Unique lodges of the world.
This is not just a place to stay, its a place to immerse your self in the flora of the region. The reserve is home to the cape floral kingdom that boasts more biodiversity than the amazon jungle by area. I stayed here for three incredible days taking in all this place has to offer. From horse riding to forest walks this is a place where you immerse yourself in nature. We stayed in the exquisite forest lodge in my own mini suite with what i can only describe as the best bathtub views in the world. Grootbos is not only a place to stay its a place that is passionate about sustaining the natural heritage of the area & cultivating locals communities.

Read moreJust returned from an unforgettable family getaway at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve 🌿 nestled above Walker Bay in South Africa. We stayed at the Garden Lodge, and from the moment we arrived, it was pure magic. The lodge is surrounded by lush milkwood forest, offering a perfect blend of comfort and nature. Our days were filled with indoor and outdoor activities for the kids from guided nature walks and horse riding to hands on eco learning and forest games.
To be honest, they have a great team when it comes to the kids’ area and activities, led by elche & William, who kept our kids informed, active, and entertained all day long. Their energy and creativity made a real difference.
The management team was outstanding special thanks to Justin and Wanita, who went above and beyond to offer us all kinds of support and truly made us feel at home.
Food was included and of a high standard fresh, locally sourced meals served with care. Rene, from the food and beverage team, was absolutely fantastic in accommodating every request for us and our kids, always with a smile.
Our stay package included all meals and several outdoor adventures, such as: Whale watching (seasonal) 🐋. Guided hiking and horse riding. Exploring ancient caves. Forest games and night walks. Star gazing ✨ Feeding chickens and rabbits 🐇🐔 And plenty of relaxed moments in between which was guided by chris.
