I was looking for quiet accommodation with a fireplace and a couch so that I could drink lots of red wine for my birthday weekend. Found Blue Bay and was quite impressed with the price for a 3-star lodge and booked with them using an entertainer voucher (2 nights for the price of 1). When we got there, the receptionist walked right past us, greeting us full well knowing we're on our way to check in and left us waiting in reception for 15 mins. Upon checking in, she informs us about a wedding happening at the venue – and the restaurant and bar will be off limits the entire day on Saturday. Told me someone was supposed to email me, no apology about it at all. Had I been informed, I would have chosen to spend my birthday weekend elsewhere. Ordered room service on Friday night (the night before the wedding) & after 2 hours, we still didn’t have any pizza. Was told by the restaurant manager that because they had 17 people dining in the restaurant, they could not push out the pizza. I eventually was so hungry, I drove to the nearest gas station to get snacks (lodge is not self-catering). When I returned, I was told someone was at my room with a pizza. Called the restaurant again and was told we’ll be called back – I’m still waiting for this call. Didn’t even get as much as an apology. We were told that we could use room service on the day of the wedding as well, but if the restaurant couldn’t serve me a pizza with a dozen people in the restaurant, I had no confidence I would get anything out of them with a wedding happening. Since the restaurant/bar would be closed on the Saturday, I enquired about being moved to a room/chalet with a fireplace – I would have been totally fine sitting in front of a fire in a room drinking my wine if I could not do this in the restaurant. Was blatantly refused even though they had open rooms with a fireplace. Receptionist told me that my entertainer voucher would not apply there; they were in a position to change my experience (misinformation, bad service and inconvenience) but showed no cares about it. Furthermore, room was very cold (warming up the room with the panel heater would have been a nice touch - it's not like we showed up unexpectedly), we had open bottled water in our bar fridge, the towels were dirty and when they serviced the room on Saturday, they left the full dirt-bin in the room. Only (half) meal I had at the lodge was breakfast and that too was disappointing – stale mini-croissants, undrinkable coffee. The staff in the restaurant on Saturday morning were very empathetic though and I appreciated their words of encouragement. They have “tick-box” wifi – won’t even run what’s app, so if you’re going there, prepare to not have reception or network. Would not recommend, especially if you’re celebrating. My whole experience could have been different if the hosts were transparent with me from the very beginning.
To reply to your response - I mentioned booking through the entertainer at the beginning of my review, so what was the point of you explaining it again? To make up for the terrible service? I'm so glad you mentioned that you knew it was birthday when I arrived, it was my birthday on Friday. The room was not prepared and there was no "gift". Your staff were reminded of my birthday on Saturday morning when I complained to your restaurant wait staff about it, who then informed your other staff. When I returned to my room from breakfast, I saw the staff member hurriedly returning from putting a sympathy mini champagne in the room. Your booking agent knew full well I was not happy when I arrived. There was a staff member who asked me how my day was on Saturday after spending the day in Langebaan, and it was great, because I didn't spend it at Blue Bay. I did not meet a duty manager, nobody responded to any of our complaints, & there's still no apology. I also did not check out myself, my husband did while I waited in the car & we at no point informed anyone that we were happy. Thank you for responding, it makes me happy to know that people will see your...
Read moreWe (4 adults) required emergency accommodation and we called many Hotels and Lodges, but the moment Tieka answered the phone, she put our minds at ease and handled all the rushed arrangements so professionally and so friendly. We were sorted out in no time and she explained everything in advance and even offered to meet us at 10pm upon arrival if need be. From the moment we arrived, we were well received at night by that same friendly Tieka with a smile.
The hotel’s elegant ambiance, stunning decor and breathtaking view of the ocean, set the stage for what would be a memorable stay, but it was the exemplary service that truly elevated our visit.
A special mention must go to Tieka, whose professionalism and attention to detail made all the difference. From my first interaction, she radiated warmth and enthusiasm, greeting us with a genuine smile that instantly made us feel welcome. Her extensive knowledge of the hotel and surrounding area was impressive and she even provided us so advise of where to go to experience a bit of Saldanha and tailored recommendations that enhanced our trip and helped us explore hidden gems we would have otherwise missed.
Throughout our stay, Tieka went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and personally showed our rooms and which view we preferred. Whether it was promptly addressing a small request or checking in to see how we were enjoying our stay, her commitment to guest satisfaction was evident. She took the time to remember our names and preferences and made thoughtful gestures that truly made us feel valued. Tieka even averted a very awkward situation with the utmost professionalism - and that encounter was actually teh highlight of our week long business trip.
Blue Bay Lodge itself is a beautiful setting, but it’s the exceptional service from individuals like Tieka that turns a good stay into an extraordinary one. If you’re looking for a hotel that not only offers luxury but also the warmth of genuine hospitality, look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend Blue Bay Lodge, and I can't wait to return—largely because of the incredible experience facilitated by Tieka and her outstanding team. Thank you for an...
Read moreBooked a weekend with the family, and my Fiancée from Switzerland with the purpose of considering the venue for our wedding next year. Unfortunately we had a really unpleasant and uncomfortable stay. We booked 3 rooms for all of us and after being out on the beach on a chilly evening, got to the room only to find no hot water in either our 3 rooms, notified the manager, they said there is a technical error and will have to water hot in 30min (I asked if the water is completely cold it will take hour to get warm, this was already at 22:00) the manager said they are using special pumps and will be hot in a few min. As per my suspicion, water was still cold after 3 hours of waiting. Went to bed that evening cold, sandy and sticky because spending the evening on the beach, water was only hot the following morning. There is no Wi-Fi code anywhere to be found in the rooms. You have to physically go down to reception (if they are there) or find a staff member to give you the Wi-Fi code since the phones in the room wasn't working or no one picked up.... The walls of our rooms were paper thin and I could hear everything said and done in the rooms next to us. We got cold coffee at Breakfast time, as seen in previous comment feedback "we should notify the staff about cold coffee" I don't feel it's really our duty to make sure coffee is warm. And we give this feedback to improve your service delivery, not to get a sarcastic answer in return. Lasty I sent a survey email back with my concerns mentioned here to Blue Bay Lodge to which I never got a reply or just a notification that my feedback has been noted. So I take opportunity here to express...
