I recently had the pleasure of staying at the delightful bed and breakfast nestled in the heart of the West Coast. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the picturesque surroundings and charmed by the warm and inviting ambience. This truly is a hidden gem for those seeking a peaceful and rejuvenating escape from the city.
What sets this bed and breakfast apart are the exceptional amenities it offers. The hot tub is a game-changer, allowing you to soak in warm, bubbling water while gazing at the star-studded night sky. It's a wonderful way to unwind and reconnect with nature.
The braai area was another highlight of the stay. It's well-equipped with all the essentials for a fantastic experience. We enjoyed delicious steaks and wors while taking in the beautiful countryside views.
The fully furnished kitchen was a pleasant surprise, stocked with everything you need to prepare your meals. What made it even better was the promise of farm-fresh eggs. We couldn't resist making a hearty breakfast with eggs collected from the local farm. They were incredibly flavourful, and they added a delightful farm-to-table experience to our stay.
The hosts of this bed and breakfast are gracious and welcoming. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home, offering valuable insights into the local attractions and making sure we had everything we needed. Their warm and friendly demeanour added to the overall charm of our stay.
In summary, this countryside bed and breakfast is a hidden gem that exceeded all my expectations. Read moreBlue Sky Retreat Farm Stay is a fantastic place to spend time on the West Coast. My daughter and I spent a weekend there as a last adventure before she starts Grade 5.
It’s a bit like being home, except there’s no traffic, noise, people, some oke banging on your gate, mumbling something unintelligible , and zero rush. Everything we needed was there waiting for us. From firewood, fire lighters, a choice of coffee, right down to sugar and rusks. Eggs and milk were already in the fridge when we got there. I realised that we overpacked when we entered the cottage, not a single thing was missing that would make the stay more enjoyable.
First I lost the kid to the hot tub (wood supplied and more can be bought), then to feeding the pot-bellied pigs, and then to collecting eggs (which magically appear in the fridge - thanks Roz) from the farm chickens. Sheba, the Alsatian, also does a few visits to make sure everyone is happy and to check if anything is needed.
It’s central to a ton of stuff, so when I eventually dried the ‘hot tubbing prune out ‘we went to fish in Velddrift, visited the West Coast Fossil Park, swung by the Pixie and Fairy Village and evenings were spent with a scorpion torch. None were found but sometimes the thrill of the hunt is all you need.
Vredenberg is just down the drag if you need anything.
Free wifi and Netflix are available but we didn’t make much use of it. Days were full and eyes were tired.
Thanks Roz and Gaston for the hospitality and the amazing weekend. We’ll...
Read moreI definitely can’t recommend Blue Sky Retreat enough. Had a surprisingly good stay! The farm is within 20–25-minute drive of Saldanha Bay, Langebaan, Paternoster, Veldrif and St Helena Bay. Very cool spot for a West Coast experience while still being able to escape the peak summer coastal tourist madness. It is also 5 mins from Die Weskus Spens Padstal farmstall and deli. Great spot for a Farm style breakfast if you don’t feel like cooking or need some supplies.
The cottage comfortably sleeps 4 and comes with all the standard self-catering amenities. The large microwave, full-sized fridge and sandwich maker is a nice touch. It also has free WiFi, a TV & Netflix. The TV has HDMI in, so we were able to attach our own devices as well.
The outdoor area is relaxing with a braai stand and hot tub. We really appreciated the 2 complimentary bags of wood as it allowed us to braai and use the hot tub on arrival. Extra wood can also be purchased onsite.
Our kids enjoyed feeding the chickens and collecting eggs in the morning AND we got to have those fresh free-range eggs...
