Gum Tree Lodge — Hotel in Sol Plaatje Local Municipality

We were looking for a last minute place to stay in Kimberley and ended up here. It's a lodge surrounded by a gate and two security boys, but it still didn't feel safe at all. We arrived around 8 when it was already dark outside. The lady of the lodge warmly welcomed us, but there were a bunch of drunk mine workers who also stayed at the lodge (I think they live there) who were cat calling us. They came a little too much in our space so as two women we didn't feel comfortable. We moved a bed in front of our door just in case they would try to come in our room. ||||Also there was this annoying sound coming from either the lamp or the ventilator. We got another room but the same annoying sound was there too. We decided to just sleep there and get up early in the morning. ||||The rooms are not really clean and the food at the restaurant is gross. We also couldn't get on wifi as nobody knew the password... This is a fantastic venue to stay for a weekend .Neat camping area and space for tents and guest rooms and restaurant on site , makes the stay much better. We had the Smileys mcc rally here this weekend , and it was an amazing experience in this very enjoyable venue.Neat oaved roads make it so much easier to enter with a motorcycle , and gardens look very good.We found friendly staff throughout our visit , and will definitely visit here again. I went to their farmers market and we all had to sign in for Covid control, but there was no sanitizer and it is unacceptable to make everyone use a pen and then not give them sanitizer. The boy at the entry was unable to rectify this (he is roughly 11 years old) and I couldn't find anyone to inform of this error.
