Mont Angelis — Hotel in Stellenbosch Local Municipality

We enjoyed our stay, the units are well equipped, and some have great views. The hosts were responsive and resolved issues quickly. We ended up in 1B and I would say 1A and 1B have the best views and location by far. The mountain view from the balcony is stunning and the suites are bright and well decorated. I booked directly on the property's website, and read the descriptions and looked at the photos before making a choice of suite from those still available. There were two main issues we faced, both of which were resolved (hence my 4* rating) but it might help others to be aware of them. Firstly, I received no communication from the property after booking directly with them. I therefore assumed that there would be some form of reception place. On arrival there was no one there, no reception, and my phone was not able to make calls to the landline number which is all that is given on the website and confirmation email. The confirmation email only gives directions to the place, nothing about checking in. We asked another couple who were quietly sitting on their balcony and they could not help as they said they had been given directions to a key lock box to let themselves in. Luckily, an uber driver was dropping someone else off from town, and he had previously taken someone to the other side of the property and so he offered to show us where to drive to. Thank goodness, as otherwise I have no idea what we would have done. So please do get in contact in advance to agree arrival logistics. |Then the second issue arose - the suite itself. Unfortunately the unit I chose (Suite 11 Cambiel) has no description of amenities at all on the website, just photos. We did not realise, and nor is it said or implied anywhere on the website, that this suite has no access to the pool, nowhere to sit out in the sun, and is very dark inside as it is right up against a steep slope with trees and vegetation around it. It is set right down in the valley, with a view down over a vineyard. I am sure that for some travellers this would all meet their needs, but it is not what we wanted nor what we had understood we were booking from the photos or the website. The setup of Mont Angelis is that suites 1 through Suite 9 are on the upper side of the road, and are purpose built units by the small pool with great views. Then you have the Manor House below the road in the valley, and lastly suites 10 and 11 are located a drive around the back of the Manor House. Suites 10 and 11 have no access to the pool or sunbeds, and are very dark inside as they are tucked right into the slope with trees behind them going up the hill. The balcony on Suite 11 is not private at all if there is someone in Suite 10. Luckily there was a mobile number on the welcome sheet, and so I was able to get in touch with the host to see if there was any option to move to another suite. We were in luck as 1B was available and she offered to let us move there. The service and responsiveness was fantastic and we were very comfortable in 1B. So all issues were resolved, but please do get in contact with the property before booking to ensure that you understand the different suites and their amenities...

My Mum and I stayed at Mont Angelis for a few days and it was such a wonderful and relaxing little getaway. I did not want to leave and will definitely go back.

The house (we were in number 10) was perfect for us. Its spacious and modern and so well equipped.

The views are breathtaking. It is a place that you have to go to when you need a recharge.

Its quiet, especially our unit was at the end and so we barely saw anyone. I didn't get to explore as much as I would have liked to as it was somewhat a working trip but I plan to do so at my next visit.

Most importantly though, the hosts : LeeAnne, Adam and Mathew are phenomenal. We arrived really late (almost midnight) yet LeeAnne accommodated this with no fuss. Matt and Adam welcomed us at that late hour and even chatted with us.

They are all so kind and thoughtful and they make you feel really at home.

LeeAnne assisted with a further request at the end of our stay, honestly nothing was too much trouble for them.

She even offered to fill my fridge with essentials before I came as she knew my flight was so late, luckily this wasn't necessary, but the fact that she offered is really top notch service, and just sheer kindness.

Im so glad I've found this gem and have met the incredible team.

Apartment was reasonably well apointed but we were disappointed to not be given the apartment we booked on the website, with no explanation given for the switch - by the time we realised we had unpacked all our bags and belongings and it was too late in the night to distrub the manager. I booked an apartment which had a separate closed off bathroom but the one we were given was open plan, meaning you couldn't take a poo without everyone hearing and smelling you. There are no communal toilets on site either, so if you're self concious about using the bathroom you've essentially got to ask your travel partners to wait on the balcony. The swimming pool is small and shallow and was covered in leaves/dirt. When we arrived our balcony was covered in flower petals which hasn't been swept up for days. The hot tap on the kitchen sink is plumbed up incorrectly, so I ended up burning my hand under what I thought was cold water.
