The communication in advance was very poor, none of my questions were answered. The meals arrangement was not at all clear despite having asked. My request for gluten free option was well managed for dinner. However the breakfast, which turned out to be continental, was very poor and consisted of cereals, muffins, toast and processed cheese and cocktail sausage. There were hard boiled eggs and slices of watermelon. The dinner was a basic braai followed by ice cream and chocolate sauce, which was vey nice but we did not think it was worth R295. ||The accommodation was extremely basic, and the layer of dust under the beds must have been there for weeks rather than days. Simple touches like a place to put a toothbrush and a spongebag would make such a difference, as well as an anti mozzie machine. There were no torches or candles in the room, and no plan B in the event of load shedding. ||There was nothing to do except read a book and nowhere at the chalet to sit except on the bed. The advertised free Wi-Fi was only at the main lodge. we are not sure what TV options there are at the lodge but there is nothing in the room. There was also no fridge in the room for fresh milk, water and fruit etc and only powdered milk and cheap chicory/coffee mix available in the room coffee station. ||There is a game drive option which is extra and run by a separate organisation. This was very good, and included an excellent meal at the organisation’s restaurant. We had been looking forward to the guided bush walk advertised on the website. However we were advised by the lodge owner that this was no longer available. Our guide on the game drive told us that the walk is still available but by then we’re were due to leave. Another example of the poor communication. ||The hosts did try hard to make us feel welcome but there does not seem to be much enthusiasm for...
Read moreWOW! This sure has been one of the highlights of our holiday. Kudu Ridge is part of a 35km2 area with all kinds of wildlife (kudu, giraffe, etc) and the overnight stay is right in the middle, surrounded by that same wildlife! (You can do game drives with them).
The room is perfect and has everything one might need, the same goes for the bathroom. The pictures on Airbnb don't really do it justice in my opinion. Big fan across the bed for if you are hot, a big blanket for when it is cold. Your own kettle for tea or coffee, which comes with the room. Big and soft bed with 4 pillows.
The communal area is lovely and shared with the other guests and makes for fun and good evenings whilst enjoying the campfire with a cold beer or glass of wine. During load shedding, they put on a generator to ensure that there is power and (hot) water for the guests.
The hosts are so kind, I can't even describe it, just really loving and caring people who really care about their guests and they help you with as much as they can.
No wonder this place has a 4.5⭐ on google reviews. I would recommend it to literally everyone who is considering a good place to stay in the Addo area.
Make this one of the highlights of your trip/ holiday as well! (Somewhere in the first half of 2023, big cats such as lions and cheetahs will also be added to the...
Read moreI was so excited about the stay at Kudu Ridge..... luxury tented accommodation in a game reserve........ Boy was I pleasantly surprised. The tents are not luxury as one would expect - the linen is old and desperate to be replaces, the towels in the room are so thin and used, the beds are old and rickety. The view point looks out over the main road and the wind farm - no use in it really and so steep to get up there - an older person would struggle. ||The whole place is in desperate need of a revamp or a major clean - in the dining hall area there are cobwebs that have been hanging there for months if not longer, the place seems a bit unkept and i really did not enjoy it at all. I only stayed because I would not be refunded and there was no other accommodation available. I don't think the price they ask warrants the accommodation offered and I also feel that the breakfast that was served was terrible. We didn't even bother with breakfast the next day- we left without eating. The place has huge potential - but it is very old and tired - a little effort goes a long way. Small things that need attention would make a HUGE difference - the only shining light was Dimitri - He really goes out of his way to try and make the stay...
