Leeuwenbosch Country House was an absolutely stunning experience. The staff were AMAZING!! Everyone was incredibly helpful and quick to assist you in whatever you may need. The food was incredibly delicious, and in the evening, you would return to your room to find your bed made and ready to sleep in with a bottle of water and glass beside your bed. We even had our laundry done for us (for a small fee). The private Amakhala reserve was amazing and our ranger was knowledgeable and we saw plenty of wildlife. It unfortunately was raining during our first day there, but we went down to the main lodge (with umbrellas provided for us in our room), where there was a fancy coffee machine for our use and games were provided for us AND the manager even lit a fire in the fireplace for us. The manager was so kind and made us feel so welcome at Leeuwenbosch. She truly pulled this place together and it wouldn't be the same without her. If you are looking for a nice getaway or vacation to a reserve in South Africa then I highly highly recommend considering coming here. I know that I hope to come again in a few years time. This place was incredible and I was so...
Read moreWe had a great time staying at the Shearer's lodge.
We stayed for two days. On the first day, there was no space for us to go on a game drive. After our booking, we had emailed and inquired about going on game drives with them but got only very short answers like "If there is space, you can go", which felt a bit weird and unhelpful.
The second day we could go, and it was a great game drive. Comparable with Addo Elephant National Park, from our limited experience. Our guide was such a pro.
The owners were very friendly and the food was good. In the backyard we saw warthogs and other animals that live in the compound. The two house dogs were such a hoot.
The manager Penny was very friendly and helpful.
The main house is a beautiful historic building with lots of interesting little details. Don't know about the rooms, since we stayed at the Shearer's lodge, which was more simple. It feels like they haven't quite figured out how to market the Shearer's lodge and not being able to go on the game drive was definitely a minus. Otherwise, this place is a great and more affordable way to stay at a private...
Read moreMy husband and I found last-minute accommodation at Leeuwenbosch Country House after all their international bookings were cancelled due to the latest COVID wave. After 3 nights at the beautifully appointed Country House, we are leaving reluctantly, but with lovely memories and the intention to return again as soon as we can.
Leeuwenbosch has a naturally warm and hospitable atmosphere, where we felt both special and completely at ease. The Country House has large en-suite rooms that are spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated to convey the unique history and character of the lodge, which incidentally hosted a member of the British Royal Family recently.
We are both vegan and were treated to a wide variety of delicious and thoughtfully prepared meals.
The game reserve is home to an amazing variety of African wildlife, including the Big Five and our knowledgeable guide gave us a truly enjoyable and memorable experience of the Eastern Cape bush
Overall, Leeuwenbosch Country House is well worth a visit and we can’t wait to come back to this wonderful...
