The property itself is breathtaking. When we pulled up to the cabin, there were two ostrich hanging out in the yard. A few min later a giraffe walked by the front door. Inside the cabin is why this isn't a 5.
When we got inside, none of the lights worked. There's no phone, so I had to make an international phone call to reception. I asked about the lights and was told indignantly that it was load sheading, as if I should have known what time load sheading was that day in this area. It would have been quite helpful to know when we checked in ten minutes earlier.
We booked a cabin with an outdoor hot tub, but it was freezing cold. I called reception and spoke with the women who I /think/ is the owner, but I'm not 100%. She said hot tub wasn't on our registration sheet so we would have to take it up with the booking agent because she "doesn't work in the office"
The wifi in the room did not work with the posted password, but the 4G coverage was good, so that didn't impact things too much.
There is no heat or AC in the cabin, but there is a wood burning fire place. Visiting in winter, it was quite cold overnight.
There were no bathroom amenities in the cabin despite them being listed as included on the booking. They do exist, because an empty shampoo with the Kwetu logo was still in the shower from a previous guest.
Some very minor improvements would would easily make this...
Read moreIt is an amazing place. I really enjoyed my stay and would have loved staying a little longer just to unwind some more. The room was nice and clean, and had everything needed for a comfy stay. I did not make use of the selection of snacks that is available at an extra cost to whomever stay over. Even though my room do not have a view as per the description, I was still able to sit on the porch and gaze out at bontebok, waterbuck, wildebeest, eland and other game in the veld on the outside of the yard fence. I enjoyed the tranquil surrounds and went on a drive on the property which was magic. Watching the sunset from the hill to the east of my room was a highlight. If in future I stay over at Kwetu again, I would pick one of the rooms with balcony access, or bring my wife and friends along and stay in one of the 3 cottages higher up on the hill. I am thankful that they provided mosquito repellent. Once it gets dark they take over and they...
Read moreOn arrival we received a warm welcome from the host, Sonja. We were given a brief introduction to the place and beautiful animals. We also received our in fridge breakfast in a beautiful basket (this was pre ordered and optional extra)
There are 3 cottages on the farm. All are strategically located and offer maximum privacy. We were in Springbok. The cottages are adequately equipped for a comfortable stay. You even get extras like tea, coffee and sugar, paper towels as well as hand soaps and toilet rolls. The main bedroom is massive with an ensuite bathroom which has a bath and shower. The kids slept on beds placed in the lounge.
The best part of sitting on the outside is the wildlife right in front of you. The giraffes often strolled right past our cottage. The horse came by to say hello. The other animals basked in the sun in front of us. You are free to walk around the farm.
Absolutely loved our...
