Maroela Guest Lodge — Hotel in Thabazimbi Local Municipality

Good views of the Magielies. The place is in need of an overall refurb. The deck is currently out of bounds. It's a pity as the view from there is good. The smell of the thatch grass ceiling can be overwhelming. My aircon wasn't working so they gave me a desktop fan. Breakfast is standard English. Got to arrange special requirements beforehand. Pool is great but there were a few dead goggas (insects) floating about. Two GPS's got scrambled in trying to route to the place. Must have something to do with the hugh berm of iron ore in the surrounding mountains. Just head into town and go up Van Dear Bijl. The place is near the first roundabout up the hill. Slept over at Maroelas while on business in Thabazimbi. Reservations and reception was excellent and easy. The location of the Guesthouse is awesome and overlooking the town far below from high op the Ysterberg, with the Kransberg mountains in the background. The fact that the whole of Thabazimbi was developed between mountains cause nonstop noise from down below. Even so, the noise did not impede my sleep as the rooms are fairly quiet. The whole guesthouse and swimming pool was built like a huge deck on the slope of the mountain. The thatch roof and decor creates a true bush-veld ambiance. We were disappointed with the damp, paint and cement smell of the room, although we paid in full, we did not stay as I have lung problems and would not be able t sleep in a newly painted place that were not ventilated at all. The site around the deck was extremely untidy, and still looked like a building site. There were no towels in the room. The owner undertook to refund me, but up to date I have had no response. We went to another lodge, who received us with finesse even if it was well after hours, and for the same price we were housed in a beautifully furnished clean ensuite and living area with a outstanding...
