We recently visited Emdoneni Cheetah Project to experience their #CatTour where you learn about the African Wild Cat, Caracals, Servals and the Cheetah. The information provided by our tour guide was fascinating. Did you know that Cheetahs have a genetic bottleneck due to exotic pet trade? These are just some of the interesting things you will learn on the guided tour with Megan and Tymon. By supporting local projects like this we give these smaller cats a chance to be released into parks where Lions aren't a threat.

After the safety briefing, we had the pleasure of meeting Cinnamon the Wild Cat and her Dad. I had never seen a Kalahari Wild Cat before that loves to eat butterflies. She actually loves having visitors.

Then we trotted off to the Caracal Den where we got to meet Diego and his mate. I didn't know that Caracals hide in trees. So next time you are in the bush, please look up.

After that we went to see the infamous Servals that are a very rare sighting indeed. I've only ever seen one in the wilderness at Pilansberg it was hunting Franklin at dusk and it leaped in front of car to catch the unsuspecting birds.

Lastly, we cautiously ventured towards the Cheetah enclosure where the two brothers waited for us under the tree. Some were daring enough to pose behind the money apple marker, others just watched these elegant felines in amazement.

The tour was a great trip for young and old. We have lived in KwaZulu Natal for years and haven't managed to visit this amazing rehabilitation project until now. The tour was probably more educational than some school tours and we strongly suggest that you take your family on an informative outing that will leave you with lasting memories of Africa's most...

The best accommodation of our entire holiday. We booked four nights in the self-catering cottage in August. ||We received a very friendly welcome at reception, where the lady (sorry I can not remember her name) showed us around the lodge and the accommodation and explained everything to us. All of the staff, from reception to the dinner service to the night porter, were incredibly friendly, helpful and super nice.|Large cottage with kitchenette is fully equipped. Very lovingly furnished and very cosy.||Main bedroom with comfortable bed, large bathroom and very large outdoor shower (almost an outdoor landscape). |Smaller bedroom for the children, but also with shower and toilet. ||Great garden with a fire pit, comfortable chairs and a bench for breakfast. Zebras visit regularly and the cottage is directly opposite the cat enclosure. Breakfast outside, eye to eye with cheetahs and caracals, was really special.||The delicious dinner at the lodge (book in advance) is particularly recommended. Our children also spent every evening in the game room playing billiards and table tennis.||Emdoneni is very well located – 30 minutes from Hluhluwe Park and 1 hour from St Lucia. ||Many, many thanks to the Emdoneni team. We felt very comfortable and would love...

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Emdoneni Lodge! From the moment I arrived, the warm and friendly staff made me feel right at home. The lodge itself is beautifully maintained, offering a perfect blend of comfort and rustic charm. My room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, providing all the amenities I needed for a relaxing stay.

What truly sets Emdoneni Lodge apart is its stunning natural surroundings. Nestled in a serene location, it offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere that made my stay incredibly rejuvenating. The wildlife and nature walks available were a highlight, allowing me to connect with the environment in a meaningful way.

The food served at the lodge was delicious, with a great variety of local and international dishes prepared with care and fresh ingredients. The communal dining experience also gave me a chance to meet other guests and share stories.

Overall, Emdoneni Lodge exceeded all my expectations. Whether you’re looking for a quiet retreat, an adventure in nature, or a comfortable base to explore the area, this lodge is an excellent choice. I highly recommend it and look forward to...

Opportunity to see Elusive Cats Our family of six including four adults and two children visited the Cat Reserve on 10th July 2023 for the morning 1030 tour. We did not stay at the Lodge The guide who showed us around was knowledgeable, friendly and informative. He explained how they care for the injured or orphaned cat species and measures taken to rehabilitate them at the centre. He took us along to show us the Caracal, African Wild Cat, Cheetah and the Serval. We were taken into some enclosures for closer observation. Our child of 11 years was not permitted to enter the Cheetah enclosure. We learnt a lot of interesting facts about these cats during the tour. The guide explained that the animals after a period of rehabilitation are released back to the wild. Those that remain had been injured in the wild and would not probably have lived otherwise. It was indeed a most informative visit thoroughly enjoyed by all and an opportunity to see these elusive cats!

We took part in the cat tour and what a experience, our guides Megan and Tymon were really knowledgable and helpful through the whole tour, you can tell they really love the animals having nicknames for some other and pointing out unique characteristics of each cat. The project itself is very important and they are doing great work as cheetah are one of the most endangered animals in the world. Please support them if you can and it really doesn’t hurt that the experience amazing to be so close and personal with these beautiful cats. I recommend visiting during the week and in the morning like we did to avoid sharing the experience with bigger groups but the cats are more dosile in the morning tour cause it’s soon after their feeding time so if you want the cats to be more active Ma uber try the afternoon tour. Otherwise it’s definitely a bucket list experience.
