Our stay at Oewerzicht was short and marvelous. Just 2 nights in order to participate in the local mountain bike gravel event called Canola Roller. From the 1st email communication through to arrival, Antoinette Steyn handled it all for us smoothy and professionally.||||Our stay at Uitsig 4 (2 bedroomed cottage) was very comfortable. It was well furnished and the beds very comfortable. Our 2 elderly parents (85yr & 90yr!!) and our 2 dogs came along too.||||It was a breath of fresh air to discover how comfortably the unit was furnished, especially the lounge furniture, it suited the older set well.||||The only snag that we faced for our elderly parents to manage were the steps up on to the veranda. We remedied this by coming and going from the back door. The step on to the grassed area from the kitchen was far far smaller and easier for them to handle.||||Uitsig 4 has 2 bedrooms. The one with the double bed in it is also en suite bathroom. However to access this bathroom you do need to navigate steps into the bathroom, and more steps down into the shower. This is quite fine to able bodied persons. The 2nd bedroom has a very smart, modern design en suite bathroom. It has easy access to the generously large shower and toilet. I would like to suggest considering adding shower handles to this shower so that any guests who are older and are visiting with the rest of the family, feel safe when showering. ||||Strolling around the surrounding well kept grassed area in front of these units suited our 2 dogs well. They were very happy to be kept on lead and "read" all the news of the area.||||Antoinette, we shall return. Greyton is a fabulously pretty town and area. I would highly recommend visiting Greyton, and staying at Oewerzicht...
Read moreWe stayed in one of the Uitsig cottages over the long weekend in March 2019. We had been here before in 2016 and were excited to be back. But, we were utterly disappointed.
The house was dirty. Not bluntly, but dirty enough that I could easily see that it wasn't cleaned thoroughly. The shower off the second bedroom was especially gross. The place was RIDDLED with tiny black bugs. They were everywhere. In our food, on the floor, in the beds, in the shower, on the couches, in our bags, on the patio, everywhere in the grass. I know this is a farm, but either spray for bugs around and inside the cottages or at least warn your guests. It was disgusting. They even came home with us, because they were in every nook and cranny of our car. The single beds in the second bedroom had horrible mattresses. I barely slept the first night and woke up with back pain every morning. I understand that in some cases kids sleep in the second bedrooms, but if it is advertised as "sleeping four adults", buy some proper mattresses. I could feel every spring push into my back as I slept. They let our friends (who booked on our behalf) know that the wood fired hot tub that was suppose to be provided to us, was broken and unavailable only three days before our stay. I highly doubt it broke on that day and they should have let us know sooner so we could make an alternative booking if we wanted to. But we had no choice, since we were not going to find other accommodation three days before a long weekend. We felt a little cheated by that move. I could see that in the three years since we have been at Oewerzicht that little to no maintenance had been done on the cottages, which was disappointing.
Unfortunately, we will...
Read moreOn The Road Again...Our vehicles and trailers pointed in the direction of Greyton. Owerzicht, here we come.
Owerzicht campsite is situated about 10 minutes drive from Greyton. This is the easiest route to take and the drive time from Cape Town is approximately 1hr 45mins. Please, do not let Google Maps take you the long way round, so stick to the route via Greyton.
Our little road trips first stop as usual, was Peregrine for pies and coffee and the next was in Greyton for water. The local Greyton Supermarket, which is located on the corner of Main Road and High Street sells water per litre from the Oasis Water Dispenser.
The drive from the Supermarket to Owerzicht is about ten minutes drive and takes you on along a gravel road that passes another campsite, Twins Rivers, which is totally off the grid. A little further are beautiful corns fields and diary farms before reaching Owerzicht.
We arrived to a deserted campsite. Our campsites were located along the river and directly opposite the ablution. Well, this made life much easier for the ladies. We opened up our trailer tents and setup camp. The ablution are kept clean, however, when the masses arrived, it was in a state.
Our sites has a few trees and a reeded shelter that provided some shade from the beating sun. Accessing the river was made easy by a floating jetty. The depth here is fairly deep and as you travel downstream, the river become very shallow. The river was a BLAST to swim in.
Management would regularly pop around to enquire if all was well.
Things to do in the area...Greyton Saturday Market was a blast!! Sorry, no pics.
We enjoyed our stay and extended it by another day.
We would definitely...
