In October 2018 over 25 Australian travelled to South Africa for the World Field Archery Championships. We were told when we booked; it was 4 star Chalet type accommodation by the river. To our horror we arrived to what was called the Stables. 3 single beds to a room, some rooms had no fridge or kettle, one desk fan in each room, the first night we had no water for showers with no way to contact anyone from Elgro River Lodge and our toilet did not work correctly for 10 days. 2 star back packer accommodation at best. We still paid the 4 star overpriced rate. There is no restaurant at the lodge, breakfast and dinner was transported in from town and then re heated with no lunch provided and nowhere to buy food, so be prepared for 2 meals a day. The temperatures were in the mid-thirties but we were too scared to get into the pool as no pool was cleaned or use able for the 10 days we were there. The staff was pleasant and helpful; we paid over 4300Ran per night for 3 people per room. We were there for 10 days so we paid a small fortune 43000Ran. Elgro River Lodge turned my South African experience into a night mare and one I...
Read moreHad the privilage to visit Elgro River Lodge for the third time in my life, this past December of 2024. I am pleased to say, that our Chalet had a renovated Kitchen, and that made a huge difference, from other places I've visited before. The aircon in the chalet is a huge bonus, as well as that both our rooms had bathrooms in. The small pool, as always, sparkling clean and my kids enjoyed that the most. Friendly, efficient service from everyone, and that was over the festive season, and that was Christmas Eve time. Cleaners was super friendly and kept our chalet clean every morning. I loved the fact that I could buy chips, ice cream, etc. at the bar too. We went on a Safari, which was out of this world, to experience! It is not far out from Potchefstroom, so if you really need to go do shopping, it is a quick drive!
Thank you for the hospitality, we will definitely visit you, and the...
