It all went wrong from the start - when I called ahead to book a room. I wanted to stay at an excellent establishment that I had stayed at once before, and when I tried to confirm that it was the same place by describing the location I was given the impression that it was. (I did not know at this stage that the person I was talking to took bookings for a number of guest houses in town... it seems all except for the one I was looking for.) ||||Upon arrival I settled and decided to give them a try... big mistake. When met at the guesthouse, my host watched me struggle with my luggage as she led me to my room. I have pulmonary fibrosis and had to stop twice on the way to my room to catch my breath. She didn't offer to help me carry, but she kindly waited with me and watched me panting, shaking her head and saying "Shame Meneer" as I tried to recover.||||After being assured on the telephone that there would be food available when I arrived, (about 19h45 as discussed in the call,) there was none! The kitchen was closed by the time I had carried my bags to my room. I must thank the young night manager who went into the kitchen and made me a hamburger himself after the staff refused and left. ||||No wireless internet! Old, small tube TV with limited channels.||||The bathroom/shower has no window and so has a very noisy fan when you switch on the light.||||Not a pleasant experience. Nothing to recommend here. Overpriced for what is on offer. Spend your hard earned...

They also sell real Genuine Karoo lamb duvets ! They where so kind as to phone the Restaurant just a few steps away from the Karoo hotel to have dinner and we loved sitting outside . We stayed for 4 nights over Christmas , and because the town is so small I suggest the following , Stay at the Karoo hotel , as this is the most wonderful experience , get Lionel and Aubrey to book a night at the restaurant , Wich has changed owners now so not to sure as yet what it’s like , than take a drive through the Karoo , just a little while past the township itself . Beware this is the only nice street so stick to it . Houses can be picked up for a bargain still . Some streets tend to be quite noisy surrounding the bottle store ! Can’t wait to...
Read moreWe stopped at the Karoo padstal late afternoon and got talking to the owner, she recommended Pat's Kitchen for dinner as the padstal closes early. We walked from our overnight accommodation and was pleasently surprised. THe decor is eclectic, antiques & stable equipment, artwork & owners furniture. The building was a old stable, the bar stools are saddles with a stable Krip. The menu is karoo country food at its best with the usual favourites . My sister and I ordered the mutton curry which was divine, spoon tender with the right spices, sambal freshly made, the portions were more than generous. My niece had the 3 meat pizza with everything, she said it was worth travelling 800 kms for it! Pat was an attentive host, good old fashioned Karoo...
