We booked to stay at Hawklee about 6 months in advance through the Discovery portal available to Discovery Vitality members. The booking was for 20 MArch 2025. The booking on the Discovery portal reflected both dinner and lunch included. I got in touch with the porperty owner/manager about 5 days before the stay just to ensure that all was okay. At this point the owner disputed that meals were included and i then promptly sent my booking voucher. She still disputed and said she would check with Nightsbridge the agency that deals with Discovery. Owner was adamant that Discovery had it wrong and eventually offered to cover only breakfast. I got in touch with discovery and explained the issue. They also said that she had to honour all meals and she refused. At this point the owner agreed to a full refund over whatsapp even though we were past the cancellation point. A discovery agent called the owner and confirmed the cancellation and emailed me notice of this telephonic agreement by the owner. I then booked another place. Shortly after a Discovery refunds agent emailed me that there cannot be refund as the owner was now asking for payment. I sent in my whatsapp messages and the email from the discovery agent who confirmed cancellation. I did not hear anything for almost two months and enquired again. Discovery again reached out to the owner and they were claiming loss of income and now required payment. I again sent proof of whatsapp conversation and the email from a Discvovery agent. I also then tried to escalate this to Discovery via their Facebook page and within a day there was an apology and that a refund would follow soon. I have the emails of Hawklee saying to Discovery that they required payment even though they agreed to a cancellation with me and a Discovery agent. I am sure this is a beautiful place and many guests may have had a good experience. But my experience with them has been less than poor and i found them to be quite insincere about not honouring the meals as per the booking and then not wanting to honour the cancellation they...

Read moreWe had the loveliest stay at Hawklee Country House. The hosts Tanya and Sean are wonderful, and it’s clear they take great pride in the attention to detail in the quality of each guests stay. This can be seen in many small touches from the tea service in the bedroom to the meals they serve. The property is charming, with a stream that babbles and can be see from each cottage doorstep.
A few things to know:
The rooms can be chilly in the winter (we stayed in August) .. the hosts provide many helpful items like kettles, heated blankets in the beds and extra blankets. So no issue but good to be prepared and being warm layers
The hot water only lasts so long - so if you’re taking a bath, don’t waste time - get in immediately because you’ll have a limited time (and the hot water likely won’t work in the sink and shower after)
You should definitely have at least one meal at the HCW. We just did breakfast due to our timing but it was worth it.
Don’t hesitate to book. For the price it’s...
