Millgate Midlands Retreat — Hotel in uMgeni Local Municipality

What I thought would be a great experience for an international exchange student turned out to be a nightmare. Upon advising the owner (Jean Temkin) I could only check-in after 21h00 due to other commitments, Jean told me in no uncertain terms that it was unacceptable and I may arrive and not be able to access the room we had booked. Eventually Chris (pub owner) made contact with me and said he had the keys. The accommodation was average and needed a good cleaning (thick layers of dust with dead insects on shelves and cooking pot lids). Upon leaving early next morning I tried to find the owner to settle the o/s amount (even though I had no invoice), was unsuccessful thus left to swim the race. We stayed at Millgate Farm house 2 for the weekend of 3rd - 4th June. After reading some really bad reviews I was very worried about the choice, so I thought I would write a review of what we experienced. The cottage was clean, one of the beds was somewhat uncomfortable, but not unbearable. The kitchen was clean and adequately kitted out with crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, kettle, toaster, fridge and stove. A welcome basket of tea, coffee and sugar and milk in the fridge was provided. A lovely fire place in the dining room warmed that area of the cottage. This accommodation is not grand by any means, but had a lovely farm sense to it. The bathroom was dated and could do with a renovation, but did have a bath, shower, toilet and wash basin and was clean! Thank you for the happy stay which was quiet...

I had the worst ever experience with this place! Would not recommend it even to my enemies! First and foremost the place was not properly cleaned on the day we arrived, so that on its own was very disappointing. What really upset me however was the fact that when we left for the day, someone took the liberty of coming into the room and stealing some of my things. I an VERY disappointed in the place, definitely would not recommend it if you would prefer to not be...
