Casa Rural Masia Serret — Hotel in Àger

My family and I have never walked out on a hotel booking or stay before. However after arriving at Masia Serret we left after 15 minutes.

Our first experience of Masia Serret was the male owner ridiculing my pregnant wife for asking if she might be able to use a toilet after a three hour drive. He then preceded to inform us we were confined to certain areas that evening and were unable to visit the communal areas, given they had booked in a large private party for wine tasting and dinner and didn’t want us bothering the party (which I suspect might have been his friends). The male owner gave every indication he did not wish for us to stay and behaved with complete disdain for us as paying customers. Further more the pictures are not reflective of the reality of the place, the furniture is dilapidated and run down and feels like it belongs in the the 1970’s (which is probably when the furniture was bought). Massive shame as the place has so much potential. A stay however is not dictated by things, it’s people what gives it heart, sadly, the male owner gave us the most inhospitable welcome we have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. We nevertheless, offered to pay his wife for the duration of the stay as we understood that we left them with a spare room. The gracious wife understood her husbands behaviour was unacceptable. Fabulós! Hem gaudit d’un cap de setmana a la Vall d’Àger i hem tornat amb l’agradable sensació que no podíem haver escollit millor allotjament per fer-ho, amb una relació qualitat/preu immillorable. Serà per la privilegiada ubicació, que ofereix unes impressionants vistes del Montsec des de la terrassa? Possiblement. Serà perquè la casa és super maca, còmoda i acollidora, i amb un porxo preciós? També. Però el millor i el que més ens ha agradat, ha estat la càlida i personal atenció que vam rebre de la Cristina i el Lluís, que van assessorar-nos en tot moment de les moltíssimes opcions de lleure i visites que ofereix la zona, amb consells que van ajudar-nos a descobrir indrets que no coneixíem. El motiu de l’estada era una excursió al Congost que teníem planificada des del Juliol i que vam haver de cancel·lar perquè el van tancar amb motiu del pla Alfa. Una sortida que vam recuperar ara a l’octubre amb una parella d’amics. Teníem contractat l’allotjament i també els sopars, que disposen en una taula gran i compartida amb altres hostes. Una fórmula que a nosaltres ens agrada perquè permet socialitzar i compartir experiències a l’hora dels àpats, que van ser molt agradables. Ofereixen un menú de 20 € amb primer, segon, postres i beguda, que inclou una generosa oferta de carns a la brasa i altres plats elaborats amb productes de proximitat i cuinats a la xemeneia del menjador. Impossible no parlar dels excel·lents cargols que ens va preparar el Lluís, dels millors que hem menjat mai, semi-farcits d’una barreja de tomàquet i allioli. Si us agraden, val la pena pagar el suplement de 4 € perquè és un plat que no us podeu perdre. Sens dubte, vindrem de nou. Hem descobert una zona de Catalunya que no coneixíem i que ofereix precioses rutes més enllà de les més conegudes i turístiques. We had a great time staying with Cristina and her husband. We stayed for 4 nights in the apartment. We visited Ager for the possibilities of hiking, kayaking and paragliding. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t good enough for the paragliding. The hiking and kayaking were amazing! Cristina told us on arrival where to book activities we liked. She was very helpful. The spot is all you want after a day in the outside, it has everything to chill and relax. We were lucky to see the stars 2 nights in a row! We would definitely be back to explore this beautiful area...
