Pazo Paradela — Hotel in A Pobra de Trives

On a two week motorcycle tour of Spain, two friends and I more or less stumbled across this place. If we remember anything of our trip, it will be our stay here. The host Manuel and his wife (who pronounced her name as Bath but which is probably spelt entirely differently) could not have been more welcoming or helpful. Our rooms were perfect, overlooking a delightful pasture and valleys to distant hills, everything was spotlessly clean and beds were comfortable.||||The food was incredible. We feasted on lamb roasted by Manuel in a stone oven. He plainly took pleasure and care in putting this wonderfully prepared meat before us. After dinner we were treated to local specialities such as a "Queimada" a splendidly alcoholic drink made with fire.||||As well as providing us with an excellent couple of nights' stay, Manuel was very knowledgeable and informative about local sights and roads that we as motorcyclists might like. We picked the Pazo Paradela on recommendation from a previous customer. Three of us on bikes arrived from a long, wet ride from the Picos. Manuel gave us directions in by phone & was there waiting for us on arrival, with a nice beer & lovely local bread & cheese.||The accommodation was superb, the meal that he & his wife cooked for us - local lamb was out of this world - easily the best meal of our 2 week tour of Spain, Portugal, & France. -and the local wine was excellent. Touring Northern Spain and Portugal with a couple of friends we happened across this unique hotel at the end of a long day. Relaxing. An interesting, quirky and fascinating place which has been restored sensitively and with passion. Good food well cooked add to the experience.
