We had booked here for a group of us. My wife and I arrived first, walked in from the car park to the entrance but there no one to greet us. Suddenly a woman standing next to a seated couple 4 metres away from us shouted over them to us "They are inside!". It was a surprise and we felt a bit bad for the couple but thanked her anyway. We did also wonder how she knew who we were? We walked inside but there nobody there so we wandered around finding ourselves eventually in the hotel section so walked back again. We spoke with a polite young waitress who went for help and we were finally shown to our table which was in fact outside. Our friends soon joined us and we began ordering. Nobody was particularly impressed with the food - for example a friend that ordered a fish dish had it arrive with nothing else, not even a garnish. It was above average perhaps but this the best that could be said. The few vegetarians felt that they were not vegetarian friendly and confused by the concept. The wines were good (unfortunately for me I was driving as were 2 others in our group but the feedback from the rest was very positive and the young man serving the wines did an excellent job). At the end of the meal we settled up, thanked the main woman who had served us and left. I was the last to depart but as I was walking away the same woman called after me and explained that the payment was short by around €100. I was surprised as we had taken our time to ensure the payment correct but did not object and happy to rectify the suggested mistake. The woman kept looking through the receipts she had and talking about the bill despite me having said that I was happy to pay so I did have to ask her to please get the card machine so I could pay as the rest of our group was waiting for me. I paid and thanked her again. When i joined my group in the car park and explained what had just happened they were also surprised as the bill had been worked out meticulously and we all had our payments on card to check and could see we had NOT underpaid. We returned as a group and politely explained. The woman from the restaurant went through the paper receipts again. We then went through the paper receipts. We discovered that a receipt was missing! The woman then found it and all now made sense. She now needed to recredit my card for the mistaken underpayment. At this point we were all standing round a big table inside. One of our group picked up some car keys on the table and asked "has one of us left our car keys here?". The woman curtly said "those are MY keys!". We were shocked but to keep the mood light, show some patience and put the woman at ease as she seemed stressed about her mistake I joked "we don't want your car, just our refund". She snapped back "you can not have the car because it is mine!". We were all silent in shock. This woman had made a bad mistake, we were being very understanding about it and she was not being polite. The money was refunded to my card and she simply said "it has gone through". One of our group reasonably said calmly "I do think it would be polite for you to at least apologise for your mistake". At this point she shocked us all. She replied aggressively "I think it is you who owe the apology". We were amazed. I simply said "Wow!". One of us said in disbelief "why do you think WE should apologise?". The woman was now tight lipped and said "I shall say no more, thank you". She looked panicked. It was late and we had been much delayed by her mistake and rudeness and didn't want our night spoilt any further so decided to simply leave and not escalate it higher but... for this to happen in any restaurant let alone one with such a reputation was incredible. The woman seemed under some stress. Maybe the place was short-staffed, who knows the reasons but it was not a good experience and none of us would recommend this place as a result. 4 stars for the wine and location, 2 for the food and zero for the shocking service takes it to 1 star. A disappointment as...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at Hotel Torralbenc for 4 nights in mid-October. ||||What we loved: -||||- Well considered architecture set in peaceful vineyards and gardens with distant views of the sea.||- Complimentary yoga each morning with an excellent instructor ||- Delicious breakfast with lots of choice served on the beautiful terrace||- Huge saltwater swimming pool, perfect for an invigorating swim||- Very comfortable room, thoughtfully stocked with eco-friendly provisions including decent coffee. ||- Consistently high standard of housekeeping.||||What we felt could be improved: -||||- We’re well travelled but this is our first experience of a restaurant offering ZERO vegetarian options on the dinner menu (despite having notified the hotel of our vegetarian preferences in advance of arrival). On our first night, after some discussion we were offered 2 of the starter dishes with the meat/fish removed and a caper pasta dish for main. These were delicious, but it felt like a reluctant compromise from the kitchen, and this combined with the lack of any further choice left us with no option but to leave the hotel for our remaining dinners. (We found excellent vegetarian food served elsewhere on the island but needed our hire car to get there). I see that this has been mentioned by previous reviewers. It is a great shame that neither the chef nor the hotel management seem willing to address this, as it’s clearly well within their capabilities. ||||- We have a keen interest in wine, and given the hotel is situated in its own vineyard we felt that there was a missed opportunity to engage guests curious about this. We would have welcomed the opportunity to learn more about the wine-making processes used. We actually purchased numerous bottles of the excellent Hotel Torralbenc wine from a nearby town, where it was significantly cheaper than within the hotel itself. It was disappointing to discover that the hotel chooses not to offer best price to...
Read moreI spent a week at Torralbenc, a lovely island respite. While the hotel is not near a beach, the environment more than makes up for it. ||Upon arrival I was greeted by the reception team who quickly checked me in. The homemade lemonade was a nice and very welcome touch. ||The grounds are lovely and beautifully kept with olive trees, bougainvilleas, rosemary everywhere. The shining star is their pool area which was my home base for a large part of the week. Pool service was quick and easy. ||My room was spacious and had a private patio with outdoor seating, which was lovely. The room was tastefully decorated and spacious with all the amenities you will need (I love the straw bag for guests to use during their stay). The bathroom was just as spacious, which included bath products in sustainable containers. ||I enjoyed two marvelous massages on site. The “spa” has limited facilities which includes massage room, gym area, and a small reception/store. ||I had breakfast and sometimes lunch at the main restaurant. Food was fresh, beautifully plated, and delish. The service by the team was spectacular. By my third morning the team anticipated exactly what I would order. Room service while a smaller selection was just as delish and service as amazing.||I thought the concierge team could have been more helpful in providing restaurant recommendations. Additionally I had reached out previously about a boat tour and had to reach out to them multiple times to hear back. ||While the hotel is beautifully kept it could use some cosmetic uplifts that could turn this place from very good to amazing. Some of the umbrellas in pool area had tears. Some of the towels were pretty old and frayed. My bathroom ceiling could use a fresh coat of paint and my bed could use some oil to reduce the squeaking. ||Overall I thoroughly...
