Menorca, Agroturismo Rafal Rubí — Hotel in Alaior

We had the great pleasure to spend a week at Rafal Rubi. We arrived in the evening and we were welcomed by the owner Charles and Damian. We immediately felt at home. Charles has renovated the Rafal Rubi property with a great eye to detail into an oasis of tranquility and luxury. We stayed in one of the double rooms of the Casa Payés. The room was spacious, had a good bed, a seperate bathroom with a nice shower and airconditioning. There was a central kitchen where you could get filtered water from the tab and a fridge with some drinks. The swimming pool is lovely and the sun beds around the pool all have parasols and are nice to read a book and relax.

The hospitality of the staff of Rafal Rubi is really special. Charles, Dianne, Sonia (don't know if this is the right spelling), Marta, Damian and the house cat Sacha. Everyone was so kind. We arrived by taxi and the next day Charles brought me to a car rental company to rent a car (thanks for that). The chats in the morning with Sonia and Marta were really enjoyable. Both of them were very helpful in giving information on what calas and restaurants to visit and other things to do on the island. Most staff members are Menorcan locals so the insider tips were great.

Not a day passed without a good laugh (Charles is a real entertainer and he really gives you the feeling that you are at home), enjoyed the company of the staff, and when having dinner at Rafal Rubi we can highly reccommend the Oliaigua soup, stuffed eggplant and the pomada by Damian. We are still not sure who won the "friendly" competition between the morning team (ladies) and the evening team (gents) :).

Unfortunatley also good things come to an end. One week in Rafal Rubi felt like two. Compliments to the whole team who makes a visit to Rafal Rubi such a great experience. We felt at home and will definitely come back. Keep up...

My partner and I arrived at Rafal Rubi for a 2 night stay on 21st July 2021. We were due to fly back to the UK on 23rd July. In advance of our flights home, we had taken a Covid PCR test on the 21st July before arriving at Rafal Rubi. In the morning of July 22nd, I received the results of our test which (to our horror) were positive. We stayed in our room that morning trying to work out what to do (knowing we would be staying in Menorca for at least another 10 days). Although we had nowhere to go and the authorities had not contacted us, I was still very conscious that our having Covid would be very bad for the hotel so I offered to leave immediately. I expected some sympathy but all the owner could say was 'yes, please get out as soon as possible'. Since we had only stayed one night, they promised that they would refund me the cost of the room for the second night. A few days later, having spent €2,500 renting a villa so that we could self-isolate for 10 days, I still had not received the money back from the hotel. I chased them up and the owner told me that as I had inconvenienced him, he had decided not to refund me anything. These people are despicable, insincere and have no integrity. And the thing is, they do an excellent job of hiding it but if you go and stay there, you'll see through it if you look...

We've been fortunate to stay in some amazing hotels around the world, but without a doubt, Agroturismo Rafal Rubi is right up there with the best. We spent 7 nights in this beautiful, small hotel and had a fantastic time. Our room was in the main house, which is stunning, having recently been completely renovated. Our room was spacious, with efficient air-conditioning, a powerful shower and shutters and black-out curtains to ensure a good nights sleep on the super comfy bed. The location and surroundings of the hotel are also amazing, with beautiful spacious and tranquil gardens and a lovely pool, with plenty of comfortable sun-loungers. What really adds to the experience, are the staff, who were all such lovely, friendly people, that genuinely wanted to make our stay as perfect as it could be. Breakfast was a well stocked and varied buffet, we also ate at the hotel on three evenings, which was also lovely, with delicious home-cooked Menorcan cuisine, with much of the produce coming from the hotel's own vegetable garden.
