This is a very special place. The kind of place you come across that fits all your dreams of what you were looking for - and then, on arrival - exceeds them all! The long approach up an easy, well maintained, unpaved road builds up your feeling of excitement and wonder until you arrive at the beautiful old collection of buildings. Walk across the cobbled courtyard with its orange trees and enter the main hall, all dark wood and comfortable furniture. Your room (ours was large with two full length windows) may have a wood or stone floor and will certainly have an extremely comfortable bed and plenty hot water in your bathroom. The dining room - with its large log fire throwing out warmth - is spacious and beautiful. We really enjoyed the set menu and if you are a wine lover you will be delighted with the choice of good and fine wines.
Throughout your stay you will be treated with the utmost care and courtesy at the highest level of professionalism whilst maintaining a lovely warm and pleasant personal touch; this ethos radiates from owners and staff alike.
It is a rare and memorable experience to find a place like this and my friends and I will return for special times and occasions when we feel like treating ourselves. Highly...
Read moreThis is our sixth stay at Cortijo del Marquez, one of our favourite places on earth. Every holiday - from our romantic ones, including our perfect honeymoon, to this one bringing our grown up children and father, have each been absolute heaven. Silvia and Elko are so warm, helpful and kind, and have thought of everything to make the hotel perfectly comfortable and utterly beautiful. We have now stayed in spring, summer and autumn and each have their own charm. We love the amazing chef prepared four course dinners and incredible wine list. The pool is stunning, the gardens beautiful. In spring swallows nest in the rafters and you hear nightingales, and see hoopoes, linnets and larks calling from the fields and olive groves and even can see eagles soaring high in the sky. There is a wonderful circular walk, that its hard to drag ourselves out of the hotel, but Granada is only half an hour away, and has much to offer. The beach is also a terrific day trip about an hour away, but lunch on the beach is worth the trip. I could go on and on. We feel so lucky to have this special place to come to, and having just left, are looking forward to our next...
Read moreExemplary from beginning to end. We have just had a week at this glorious hotel, that we had great expectations of having read reviews, but which well and truly exceeded.||There were 10 of us staying at the hotel, across 4 rooms. The rooms were marvellous, tasteful and with the all important air conditioning. Gorgeous products provided it the bathrooms too. ||The hotel setting, pool and common areas are sublime. Absolute serenity, places of shade, and a perfect pool to actually swim a few lengths. In smaller hotels that seems to be a rarity.||The hosts are lovely people, kind, warm and provide great insight and local information. The staff are incredible, with amazing memories for any orders or special requirements. Faultless throughout.||And the piece de resistance, the USP above all else has to be the food. Just wow. The menu changes daily, with creativity and flair. We had some specific requirements including my own vegetarian peculiarity of no mushroom or aubergine, and that was accommodated perfectly. ||We know we have to return to this perfect hotel. Thank you to all...
