Albergue Tu Camino de Ontón — Hotel in Castro-Urdiales

An excellent choice, instead of stopping in Pobeña, carry on by the coast (magnificent views and great feeling) and this albergue will provide pilgrims with a nice and very welcoming experience. Maria José and Giuseppe's recently opened place is full of warmth and good vibes - as two pilgrims and former hospitaleros on the Camino, their experience will show in the details of the albergue and the way it is managed.

Accommodation is 6 euros, communal dinners are organized on donativo basis, and breakfast is another 2 euros. Equipped kitchen is opened for the pilgrims' use and there is a bike storing place for the bicigrinos too. Pets are allowed, there is a nice back yard where they can rest for the night. The atmosphere is a genuine one for an albergue made out of passion for the Camino and this will make for a great experience and outweigh the potential shortcomings of the place. My experience with this albergue was pleasant. The hosts were very nice. We played instruments and sung together, but they also respected that other people want to sleep.

The dinner was big and very tasty. Breakfast was good enough. For that price it's definitely a good place to be.

I rated the rooms lower because my personal experience was that I could barely sleep. There were like 16 people in one room, snoring, coughing. I should have grabbed some ear plugs probably. My mistake on that side. I would advice getting one of those smaller rooms the host has.

All in all its a wonderful place to be though. It was worth not sleeping one bit haha. That means...

possibly the best albergue for Camino del Norte pilgrims on the way from Irun, mainly due to a really great, kind and hospitable atmosphere created by its owner and manager! She (unfortunately forgot the name, finished by Camino on 30th June 2023) was kind, helpful and it was the first albergue on my way with a feeling of a true Camino spirit! I am grateful to the hostess and recommend it to all pilgrims in search of kind, welcome and sincere atmosphere on one day of their Camino..good food and good atmosphere are...
